Hello.

Today I got a call from SWT that I had a successful interview and they want to offer me the job ( rail operator ).

HR lady said that she will send all my papers out next week , plus an invitation for a medical test.

She said that test only lasts for 30 mins.
What should I expect ? Are they taking blood as well ? I hate needles .... :(

I'm so happy that I passed the assessment and the interview as well.
It's only a part time position but I hope that with time I can get more hours.

This forum was a great help for me :)

No needles.....

The drugs and alcohol part and glucose is done through urine tests.

If you are healthy, then the medical will be over pretty quick, probably more time will be spent in the waiting room.

Do they still do that?
Certainly don't for us siggies!!

My last one was:
Breath test for alcohol.
Urine test for alcohol, drugs and glucose.
Weight.
Height.
(and a rollocking because I wasn't tall enough for my weight!)
Colour blindness.
Hearing test.
Blood pressure.

What does the colour blindness and hearing test entail? Do they have like special machine for this, or just ask you to say the colour you see or the word you hear?

Hearing test is headphones with beeps in each ear of differing tones and volumes, you click a button when you hear a beep.

Vision is usually just the colour plates you see anywhere for colour blindness tests but as I am colour blind I got to skip them ;)

The colourblindeness test is the Ishihara(?) test. Google it to give you an idea.

The hearing test is sitting in a box with headphones on and every time you hear a noise come through them you press a button.

Ah, thanks for clarification; the tests sound simpler than I'd originally thought! :)

How strict are the medical tests, does anyone know? I'm quite concerned at the hearing as at the age of 29 I suspect my hearing has started to go - what I get for sitting with a headset on 12hr shifts a day :(

I did the medical for the exact same grade a few months back.

It involves;

Urinating in a cup, for drug and alcohol screening.
Height and weight measurements to calculate your BMI.
Colour blindness test, the special dots in a book test as mentioned above.
An eye sight test which is looking into a computer screen thing. With and without glasses if applicable.
Blood pressure.
General fitness and well being questions.
Hearing test. Which is sat in a booth listening for different tone beeps (it lasts a while, well seems like it when you're on your own in a dark quiet room).

Pretty sure that's all I had.

If you have used or been in contact with any drugs or medication, make sure you tell them. Obviously any drugs in your system will mean instant failure and therefore no employment.
