I use a 400D, and if the rumours are true in a few years or two I'll upgrade to a 50D
Gonna get my lenses sorta first though.. 24-70 F2.8L IS and a 10-22 methinks..

You can get a lower F Number with them, but they also protect your lens.

What lenses do you currently use? Did your 400D come with the standard 18-55?

Yeah my camera came with the standard (crappy) 18-55.
I replaced the 18-55 with a 17-85mm IS, which in turn will be replaced with the 24-70 f2.8L IS.
For telephoto I had the 55-200mm MkII, which was crap, so now I use a 70-200mm F2.8L IS

You can get a lower F Number with them, but they also protect your lens.

a UV filter shouldn't make any difference to f-stops - unless you've screwed about 6 of em on!

This is true, but I found I could use 2 lower F-Stop numbers and get the same result as if I didn't have one on...

I wouldn't bother with the 50D its not much better than the 40D but 3 times the price (50D retails at £1200!!)

Better off saving a bit more and waiting for the 5D Mk2 if you want to spend that kind of money on a body.
