Penguilino & Claus 91 ~ Virgin Trains

To get into the Xmas spirit, Virgin Trains have unveiled VirginEastCoast DVT 82209 and VirginWestCoast Pendolino 390013 in their Winter-style livery, as designed by Madeleine Deakin (aged 11) and Amber Maxfield (age 9) whom won a competition earlier this season.

Claus 91, as it's been named, operates on the East Coast mainline between Kings Cross and Scotland, whilst the Penguilino can be found on Virgin Trains West Coast services.

In my opinion, it's great that Virgin have carried out another livery this year (Traindeer was last year), and for supporting people to design the scheme.

Its a fun idea, gets people talking about the company and train travel in general and helps to get rid of the 'stuck in the mud' image some train companies have.

Airlines have had special liveries and retro colour schemes for a while and it makes for a neat bit of PR.

Not sure about the blue 91 and DVT though, might have been an idea to blend in the Virgin colours a little more, at least at the ends.

Originally, I thought the entire train was to be in this livery (like the traindeer last year), but it would be costly for all the vinyls and also not worth it fot just the month.

Agree the ends should of been blended in :D But still a good way of involving Virgin East Coast, not just West Coast.

Does anyone know what diagrams Claus91 is operating for the rest of the week? Would love to see it going through Durham!

Appears they took a Pendolino into Kings Cross to be able to photograph them together in a more photogenic setting than Euston. Is this the first time this has happened?

390s have been down the full length of the ECML previously including to Kings Cross during testing in 2012. Don't think it's happened since then mind you and I would also assume that it didn't come from Edinburgh for this photoshoot!

Virgin (West Coast) said their Penguilino is on the Manchester-Euston shuttles today, but haven't seen anything yet about Claus 91.

I did see this yesterday evening at Euston but failed to get a photo, not that i'm a photo sort of guy if i'm honest.

Arrived about the same time the Inverness/FW Sleeper left.

I think a Pendolino was also brought in to King's Cross for filming more recently wasn't it? Can't remember why, but think it was to make KGX appear like Euston.

It was still in livery when I had it Warrington-Wolverhampton on the 2nd, but has been debranded on Saturday night when I had it back from London so that would fit.
