Trivia; stations with the worst view from the platform?

Can anybody better, if that's the word, the "view" at Warrington Bank Quay of the stunning Unilever works :cry:

When I was a bit younger went for an interview in Warrington and getting off the train wasn't the greatest introduction to a town I've ever had!

NB Clearly you can have a station where one platform overlooks a scrap yard and the other a view down a gorgeous valley. It's the worst view from one platform - just because the other side's nice doesn't even things out!

Also, platforms in tunnels/underground don't count.

Wakefield Kirkgate isn't great, actually neither is Westgate as all you can see is the prison which is home to some of England's most notorious criminals...

Considering how attractive the stations themselves are, I'd say from the platforms both Huddersfield and Bristol Temple Meads don't have much to write home about.

Oh, and East Midlands Parkway too!

Bangor has to be up there.

Bangor is grey and depressing, the platforms are sandwiched between a tunnel either end and no view of anything but a main road and a old yard opposite.

Warrington Bank Quay at least has a bit of industrial drama about it.

New Pudsey just has a factory wall which always looks quite uninspiring.

Morley is in a deep cutting and doesn't have any nice buildings or canopies to brighten it up, so its pretty dank and gloomy. At least the mouth of Morley tunnel is quite impressive.

That building IIRC was covered up for the 2002 Commonwealth games! Not sure which looked worse, the cover or the building it hid

I've always considered Bognor to have the worst view, mainly because the view is of Bognor.

Harlow Mill gets my vote, a lovely look at a disused concrete signal box and the Aggregate siding and site.

Many stations going south out of London Bridge are the epitome of urban inner city decay.

Birmingham New Street platform level for an unmatched combination of ugliness and filth.

Stafford and other WCML stops, and Euston, for architectural vandalism.

East Midlands parkway for industrial splendor.

Burton-on-Trent is quite bad its just beer factories that once per week make the whole town stink.

New Holland, the platform has a view of an industrial estate, overgrown tracksides and a town which saw better days.
Scunthorpe looking South isn't nice either.
My local, New Clee is not nice at all to look around.
Hatfield and Stainforth has a view of a slagheap.

Stratford International has even worse walls on both sides; they never got smoothed off* - for the most part you're looking at bare rough pilings.

I know what you mean, but I quite like Stratford International for its ultra modern Euro-Brutalism and hurtling Eurostars on the through roads.

Going back to an earlier post on this thread, I can't think of an experience much more bleak than waiting on Warrington Bank Quay. Narrow platforms, industry all around, thundering freight every five minutes, even less hospitable than Wigan North Western...

Dundee. Sits below sea level and the retaining walls on either side are pretty grim.

Even if you venture to the far end of platform 1 or 4 and peer over the top, you've got a Tesco on one side and a multi-storey car park on the other.

When I was a young 'spotter in the late 1970's Ashburys had a busy little freight terminal right next to the station.

Kearsley, because no matter which way you look, you're still in Kearsley.

Widnes from the Liverpool bound platform.

Patricroft, it's just too bleak and run down looking from both platforms (it's not much better in the local area tbh, all sorts of derelict buildings all over the place).

Honley isn't too bad from the platform that's in use, just the abandoned other platform and rolling countryside. But if the other platform is ever brought back into use, the view will be of a bus depot complete with shoddy portakabins.

Cantley, Norfolk, is literally in the shadow of the beet factory. Although fot me it does have a certain industrial beauty.

Great Yarmouth has a lovely view of Asda. The station still shows signs of when it was bombed in World War WII and has nice views of wasteland, a small office more akin to a portacabin and an abandoned bridge.

Slight improvements have been made with half the bridge painted and a delerict factory raised.

I'd agree, actually. I'm a bit of a fan of modernism and brutalism when it's done well, and I think it is done well there. Whereas Maryland is just rundown and dirty.
