Good morning,

Does any one know how Steam Loco Tangmere is? I heard that she was undergoing repairs or an overhall or something similar. ?

All being well I am hoping to be travelling with her on a main line steam special in about a week or so, I wonder if she will be ok by then. ?

Thank You.

I fear it's one of the consequences of this.... temporarily barred from main line.

Yes, I have a horrid feeling you may be right, I noticed that thread yesterday, which has been closed until more accurate information is known.

It has not been a good year for main line steam, I did not book many steam trips this year, but most of the ones I have booked, were either cancelled or operated by Diesel, which is not the same.

Oh well, I hope these problems get sorted out ok asap and next year things will be better.

Tangere is/was down as booked haulage for the Sussex Belle next Tuesday from Victoria - Eastbourne. Anyone able to confirm if the trip is still going ahead or not please with said loco or is it likely to be subbed for a diesel/cancelled?

Any info gratefully received.

Thanks

Ben

I was still wondering that, I just looked again at steaminfo website and as you say it's still showing Tangmere, there is nothing on the news item on RTCs website about an alteration and there was when another trip a few days ago had a loco revision. I am therefore keeping my fingers crossed that it will still run next week with Steam on the main two parts of the journey. I have not however, had tickets yet.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
I have just had the tickets come through for this trip today, it would appear, according to these, that it is still steam Vic/Eastbourne & Hastings/Vic. Tangmere is mentioned again as the loco, so fingers crossed.

I notice on the same day, that the VSOE/Belmond British Pullman is also scheduled, doing a four hour lunch train hauled by Tornado, so Victoria will be a bit steamy that day. :D:D

Tangmere has been reported as having a test run from Carnforth round the usual Hellifield, Preston circuit today but I haven't heard how things went.

Oh she's up there is she?

I do hope all went well on the test run you mention.

By the way, who actually owns Tangmere?

Due to work from Three Bridges to Bath/Bristol I believe, glad I'm early turn if that's the case. It puts a smile on my face seeing a kettle pass my box.

Yes, conveniently I'm in Bristol tomorrow afternoon so I'll be able to watch the departure

She was heading south at Haywards Heath this morning at around 8.15, with a 47 in tow.

Train back left Bristol behind 47832.

Been reported elsewhere that 34067 has suffered a fault with the OTMR equipment? 47832 has completed the return journey alone so I believe.

Has a steam loco in the last few years suffered as many 'issues' as Tangmere where main line operations are concerned out of curiosity?

Thanks

Ben

This is very disappointing news, especially as it's only just had some sort of servicing, a shame for yesterdays passengers, although at least they had steam in one direction.

What is the OTMR?

I hope they can it fixed ok for Tuesday's trip, or another steam steam loco can do the trip instead, It would be a great shame if it was cancelled or diesel hauled all they way.

Oh well, fingers crossed they can fix it.

The OTMR is on the on train monitoring and recording system. It is the railway equivalent of an aircraft black box flight recorder.

Been reported elsewhere that The Sussex Belle which was due to be hauled by Tangmere tomorrow (08/12/15) has now cancelled because of the OTMR problem.

Thanks

Sadly this is correct, I had an email advising the train has been cancelled owing to the reason mentioned here about the OTMR, it could npot be repared in time and there was not the time to get another loco.

I had a feeling that was going to happen. Very disappointing, I booked the trip back in March. :(
