The rules say you shouldn't wait more than two hours to any destination (my bold). It doesn't say you have to catch the first available bus to anywhere, and if the poster wants to go to Chepstow, he is within his rights by two minutes.

I think you'll find it does. Please see this quote from the rules below:

For example, it wouldn't be reasonable nor realistic, for someone to post a move which involves waiting at Clapham Junction for an hour and a half; trains pass through here much more frequently... whilst waiting two hours at a station such as Stowmarket would be more realistic as the station doesn't see frequent services.

At this part of Gloucester Road, the 18, 75, 78 and 79 run very frequently, so I think it is totally unacceptable to wait two hours here. Furthermore, Eden Grove is just under half a mile away which sees the 12, 19, 70, 71, 72 and 73 serving it. To me, this is like waiting two hours at Birmingham New Street.

I didn't even notice Paul, to be perfectly honest.

In that particular example with Gloucester, however, we had been travelling solely between Gloucester and Cheltenham twice, which did end up getting repetitive. There were also several other options available at the time, however people decided to stick running between the two.

It's fair to say Paul that you do choose some highly bizarre settlements to take us on this game; we have been through this before however I cannot fault you for it and I thoroughly enjoy it. Upper Warlingham, whilst not necessarily being 'bizarre' per se, only sees two trains per hour between London Victoria and East Grinstead, and so I think it is fair to say a return back to East Grinstead due to the limitations of settlements and frequencies of services on this route was allowed to have taken place.

This goes out to everyone now: I really think you all need to open your eyes, take a bit of time and look carefully at where you are planning on going. I swear half of you are high when you post sometimes!

Actually that comes from the 'Etiquette' post (here) rather than forming a part of the formal rules so unless someone is being very silly (such as the example given) it would be best to just play on.

A gentle reminder to everyone that when it comes to this game what we want to see is that play isn't interrupted unless one of the proscribed rules (rather than etiquette) is broken and even then in many cases it would be best dealt with by politely pointing out the issue and playing on rather than bringing the whole game to a halt.

It's supposed to be fun not just an arcane study into the rules of the game

So if going forward you could keep that in mind and give the benefit of the doubt to other players (unless there is deliberate disruption or someone persistently ignores the rules) I think we'd all be able to proceed much happier than having people feel that they need to take breaks from the game which none of us want.

I am sure that we all concur with the aspiration and really do appreciate that both a forum quizmaster and a moderator have now taken the time to fully explain matters. This quiz is indeed unusual in having the rules on the first posting and the "quiz etiquette" on the second posting, made by two different forum quizmasters.

One matter that I have always thought helpful since this relaunched quiz was started was that the second posting should have its content added to the first posting, rather than being shown separately. Perhaps that may be thought worthy of consideration by those with the power to ensure that this can be put into effect.
