Apologies if this has been done before, but which are the biggest unstaffed or smallest staffed stations on the UK network. Size can be in usage, number of services or number of platforms.

I'd guess that the biggest unstaffed station on the network is Wakefield Kirkgate, and that the smallest staffed is somewhere rural like Kyle or Llandrindod.

(Wikipedia usage figures alert )
Hounslow Loop has 4 out of 7 stations unstaffed, and 2 had usage of more than 1 million in 2013-14:
Kew Bridge: 1.181 million
Isleworth: 1.152 million
Syon Lane doesn't have 2013-14 figures shown, but 2012-2013 figures are 0.975 million so the 1 million mark has probably been reached there as well.

Syon Lane does not have any obvious sign of disused station buildings being in existence (well, on the road it is named after anyway), however Isleworth's building is completely boarded up, and at Kew Bridge only a very small part of the building is occupied by a local business with the rest boarded up (although I haven't passed it by road for a very long time now :o). At the remaining unstaffed station, Barnes Bridge, the single-storey building is occupied by a local business.

In terms of sheer physical smallness Stourbridge Town must be in with a shout in terms of the 'staffed' category. Amazingly it was re-staffed on rebuilding even though the old place had become unstaffed.

Going by ORR station usage figures:

I suspect Carstairs is the least used staffed station in both Scotland and the UK.

In Scotland the busiest unstaffed station is Livingston North. UK wide I think it might be Queenstown Road (Battersea).

I tend to concur. And, FWIW, Livingston North desperately needs a ticket office! One TVM on each platform is not sufficient.

Depends how you're defining biggest/smallest. Land take? Usage? Number of platforms?
I agree the OP has phrased the question badly.

He wouldn't mean number of platforms because a quick google shows that this has already been done this year. (Link)

If he means usage, it'll be interesting to see if the answer has changed since it was last discussed in 2011. (Link)

Quietest staffed station is Carstairs, busiest depends on what you define as staffed as Livingston North I think may be the largest without any staff at the station while there are busier stations which don't have a ticket office although do have staff at the station.

Largest unstaffed station by Platforms I think is Barnt Green and Church Fenton although Rugeley Trent Valley covers a larger area. Smallest staffed by area is probably some small single platform station in London.

Cheddington is largest now I think with London Midland having decided to destaff it.

Although Queenstown Road does not have a ticket office, it does have staff present on a part-time basis at least, as it has a gateline.

OK so I think it's probably one of these 3 contenders then. Based on 2013/14 ORR Usage figures.

Isleworth 1,152,028
Syon Lane 1,041,984
Livingston North 1,030,588

The way Livingston North patronage has been expanding post Airdrie - Bathgate I'm sure it's ahead of Syon Lane by now but probably Isleworth is still the busiest unstaffed station as it appears not to have a gateline or ticket office?
