Hi all,

Can anybody help me out, I have recently had an interview for the position of operative for S&T. Now, I do actually work for Network Rail, but the job was advertised with no stated salary. On the Internet I have seen the position advertised from £20k up to £26k. Also, I am confused as to what the rates of pay are for nights and weekend, I have been told that it is 10% on your hourly rate when the hours are deemed weekend or nights, is this correct?

Thanks.

Do you know what grade the position is?

The night premium ranges from about £10-£20 per shift. Sundays are paid at time and a half. Saturdays are not special.

Thanks for the responce Tom, I have checked the job discription again and there is no mention of a grade.

In the interview I was told that I would be working in a team of 3, it was a 13week roster with 2 weeks days and the rest nights, and that was about it really.

Operative is the old grade 2. On my area (Peterborough) 26k ish is top of the band. Friday 18.00hrs until Monday 06.00 is classed as weekend working and is paid a time and a half. Weekday nights are plus 25percent.

I know we are all supposed to be n an equal footing after phase 2 b+c but most infrastructure jobs are still advertised with the caveat of ex infrastructure maintenance company terms and conditions depending on what route you are working on,whereabouts in the country are you or have you applied for?

Wow, there is a real mixed bag of possibilities for terms for this role, no wonder it was not laid out in the job description. It will be based in Manchester, if that reflects in the salary at all. I looked on Google and found an RMT circular from January 2015 and it stated S&T 3 was currently (before pay award) on just over £26k. Now is S&T 3 an operative or technician? Thanks for trying to help lads, I probably won't get it anyway!
