Looks like there have been 2 severe incidents on the West Coast Mainline which have caused massive disruption.

The first one is at Canley where there has been a lineside fire which has caused massive disruption into Birmingham from London and affected the Manchester to Bournemouth services which aren't calling at Coventry or Birmingham International. The fire is believed to have been caused by vandals and has burnt through several cables.

Secondly there has been safety checks around Watford Junction which has meant that all Virgin Trains and London Midland services in and out of London Euston have been delayed for up to an hour.

Its been quite a bad day for the West Coast Mainline.

Between the parallel lines
...and then, on the deep South of the WCML, overhead line problems and a failed freight delaying/suspending some services which then head - or should have headed - via the West London Line!

I did wonder why they were making announcements for Birmingham International and Coventry passengers to change at New Street at Stoke earlier!

Also to compound issues further there is a fault with a level crossing somewhere between Coventry and Nuneaton.

Coventry to Nuneaton line has been suspended in the past half hour due to a crossing incident. There is also a broken down train at Crewe.

How are the Virgin services reaching Birmingham at the moment? Are any being diverted via Nuneaton?

They have been going via Stafford to reverse and then via the Trent Valley.

Add to that the dogbox itself broke earlier ......an awful day for rail travel.

Some Euston-Birmingham-Scotland services have been running via the Trent Valley, and then shuttling to Wolverhampton and back before continuing north.

On the 1310 Euston to Chester, slowed right down before MK and very slow from there to Rugby. PA put it down to damaged track and congestion over that stretch, not sure if that was right or not, but we were over half an hour late into Chester, and of course ATW managed to lose time along the coast as well, so over an hour late into Bangor.

Damaged overhead line equipment this afternoon on that stretch.

Bad day everywhere......Bedfords suspended due to staff shortage, Abbeys off then on then off again due to 319 and poor rail issues.

The "fire" at Canley is the second similar event in the last year or so, another fire later on near Tile Hill was again the same as last year. Vandalism, cable theft or whatever, it has caused severe disruption.

There is now more disruption around Milton Keynes and I think Chiltern were disrupted earlier. The Arriva Trains Wales services from Birmingham International along the Cambrian line have been disrupted because of Flooding as well.

TRUST had it down as a bump reported between Hanslope and Hillmorton. Canley was seeing how well signal cables produce a flame.

Not the only significant disruption to affect London Midland in the West Midlands region today, either: The Stratford line, via Whitlocks End, has been off all day due to over-running engineering works - Some item of on-track plant failed in the early hours of this morning while track renewals were taking place between Tyseley and Whitlocks End.

Trains started running again towards Birmingham from the Stratford direction at about 5, but not in the opposite direction for some reason.

Perhaps only the Birmingham bound line could be cleared?

Yes, with a Spring Road to Crewe commute I've had a great day. London Midland announced their usual policy of getting your rail ticket accepted on the National Express buses, but no one told the National Express inspector block at Bradford Street this morning who luckily accepted the National Rail web page as good enough. Delay Repay on both trips today.

Had no problem with the inspectors on the Bradford Street block this morning, interestingly, although perhaps I was on a later bus (Must have been about 08:20 by the time that I got that close to town).

I probably went through Bradford Street about 06:50. I just failed to make the 07:15 Glasgow. I must have sorted them out for you. :D
