A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
I need some help in tracing some information on the line where this low-level station was situated. My records on the high-level line are complete.

From Dowlais High Street, the line passed through Pantysgallog (Low Level) Halt and I would be pleased to know what stations then were passed through.

According to C J Wignall's "Complete British Railways Maps and Gazetteer" the line continued westward to a junction NE of 'Pontsarn for Vaynor' station on the line that came southwards from Torpantau and then curled round the west and south of Merthyr to terminate at Cae Harris station. Most of the line between Pantysgallog and Pontsarn seemed to be in tunnel (from the Ian Allan "Pregrouping Atlas") and there were no other stations.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that information. Indeed it was the tunnel section that was difficult to follow on my somewhat dog-eared old map of the area.
My pleasure. Take a look at http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/SO0509 where there are a few pictures of the west end of the tunnel and of a ventilation shaft for it. Looking at the maps on that site, the other end may have disappeared under new roads or redevelopment of the area.

To add to the other posts, R.A. Cooke's Atlas of the Great Western Railway has some good maps of the railways in that area. The line of interest to you was part of the LNWR / LMSR Heads of the Valleys line from Abergavenny, which joined the Brecon & Merthyr line at Morlais Tunnel Junction (sometimes just called Morlais Junction). There were no stations between Pantysgallog (Low Level) Halt and the junction.

On reaching Morlais Tunnel Junction, trains traversed a large semi-circle via Pont Sarn & Cefn Coed stations before entering the old Merthyr station from the south.

As the crow flies, Dowlais High Street was probably around 2 miles from Merthyr - by rail it was over 7 miles.

Just south of Pantysgallog (Low Level) Halt, there was a curve to Ivor Junction on the line to Dowlais Central.
