Well after a few other applications elsewhere I am about to finally join Govia as a platform assistant at potters bar!

During this process I have taken note of the dates things have happened, and I was thinking maybe someone will find the insight/information useful or interesting, so here is a basic run up.

Application submitted 15/8/15

job expired on 16/8/15

received email back 28/8/15 congratulating me and inviting me to attend an assessment on the 3/9/15 at east Croydon at 9:30AM

3/9/15 attended assessment day
Train dispatch concentration test and role play, after that we had the dreaded wait to see who failed at that stage. After this we had interviews with two mangers from various stations.

9/9/15 invitation to attend a medical on the 22/9/15

15/9/15 received conditional offer letter

15/9/15 received new booking at the medical center due to double booking, moved to the 2/10/15

2/10/15 attended medical, hearing test, color vision test, eye sight test, urine sample and breathalyzer sample, blood pressure and BMI checked.

6/10/15 had a phone call regarding medical, passed.

13/10/15 received contract/start date (2/11/15) and other countless forms to fill out, was given a website link to external provider to check references

20/10/15 received letter giving me travel on Govia services for the 2/11/15 – 16/11/15 as well as further information on induction day, attending Kentish town station for 3 days at 8:45 – 17:00 each day

So yeah that's that, doubt most of you read that, but it's good to get these things down on (digital) paper.

Congrats on the start date

Out of interest...have you applied for other roles previously ie Driver/conductor?
Do you intend to progress through the ranks?

I am in the process of applying for a Customer Service role with the aim of progressing. It's difficult just to get through the door in my experience so well done on your new role

well personally, for the moment at least I would be quite happy staying in the customer facing roles given that's what I have always done in my working life.

and as for past applications I did about a handful lets say, never got to the assessment stage, then I became a hotel night porter for a year, did two applications my customer service one, and a senior conductor one. I got invites to both for the same day, so went with the platform assistant one.

it's totally doable, just don't go giving up.

Interesting post.
Applied for a job as a team leader with GTR and am still awaiting a response from HR about the outcome of my interview with the station manager and its almost a week now which is nerve racking.
Heard if you get an email, its most likely bad news and a phone call good news.

Congratulations on the job.

Could you add some more emotive parts please. Your post is awfully clinical and whilst it outlines the process it misses key information about "experience"

How many failed on that first stage ? When people were getting sent home on my assessment day I was a bit shocked and wasn't aware that would happen. It affected how I felt and ergo how I performed.

Was you aware you had succeed in getting the role after the interview and was a conditional offer made ?

Having it all done in one hit. Was that a good or bad thing ?

Any idea how long it takes after interview before you get a reply?
Had my interview over 2 weeks ago and am still waiting which is quite strange to be honest.

Just out of interest, what were your reasons for opting to go for the platform staff role rather than the Guard (Senior Conductor) position?
