A right farce at Leeds.....

I was travelling on the 16:21 Leeds-Doncaster service today. Arriving into Leeds I noticed 321903 heading Into York, which I thought was odd. The Doncaster service had 158844 in the platform, which was obviously a set swap for 321903. At around 16:25 we were swapped onto 333005 as the driver didn't sign 158s (heard from the guard as I boarded the 333).

It then turned out that, as a South Yorkshire based guard, he didn't sign 333s. We eventually left Leeds 19 late.

Has a 333 ever worked to Doncaster before?

Ooh, a bit of a sore point amongst some of our friends from South Yorkshire, as I believe they coughed up some of the funding for 333's !

The driver in question is medically restricted to electrics because of back problems I believe. I've took a 333 to Doncaster at 17:21 confused a lot of passengers. Then a couple of years back before the 322s arrived the 20:21 was diagramed to be a 333 but more often than not turned out a 321

Are the seats on Northern DMUs different to the Northern EMUs then?

333s are different no desk for legs to go under. 321s the driving position is higher. If it's the driver I'm think of he's a big and tall lad

I think they were more commonplace before the 322s came from Scotrail which allowed them all to run as 321/322 to Doncaster.

I also heard about the 158 seen on the stopper earlier this afternoon

Yes, but Northern do not run any services York-Doncaster-Leeds, or even just York-Doncaster! (A passenger could travel Leeds-York via Doncaster on Northern only but there are very few journey opportunities and it would necessitate changing at Doncaster & Selby so would still go off the wires!)

imagine my horror on Saturday night when the last Don-Lds train was a 2-car 144 (to be fair, it was race day in Town, so they might not want to put something decent on)

I live near the line, not even seen a 333 on a service, it's always been 321/2's, 142/4's or 158's in recent years

I wish to object to that in the strongest possible terms! Northern are doing the best they can with worn out stock and track. They always get me home in the event of a train failure or cancelation and have the best staff working for them anywhere. I'd take a member of Northern's team over any other TOC you could name

Well without wishing to turn into yet another Northern Bashing thread we have had enough of those, my comment was slightly tongue in cheek but I be inclined to stand by it in the strongest possible terms! for those that have a sense of humour bypass and I'm prepared to see what the new franchise brings.

I doubt any Northern electric has ever made York. No doubt that will change when the line via Garforth gets knitted
