Broken Down Train Colwyn Bay Causing Major Disruption 22/10/15

The Loco hauled WAG train broke down at Colwyn Bay this morning and the effects have been felt quite badly.

The picture below shows just a few of the cancellation and delays including one of the numerous early morning Virgin Train Service to London at 1hr 48 late and now being cancelled at Crewe I'm sure this has caused considerable problems for a lot of passengers.

67029 was the culprit and 67017 ran as 1Z99 from Crewe to rescue. Understand took back to Llandudno Jn.

Don't know of problem at the moment. Thunderbird arrived 08 30

67029 shut down at Colwyn Bay reason Unknown. Declared a total failure a short while later.

One coach of the WAG was out of service on Monday's southbound train.
So in a 6-vehicle train, only 2 were available for standard passengers, which were, shall we say, cosy!
Nice take-away hot breakfast though.

Edit: Looks like the 0735 Chester-Euston ran on time today with only the Wrexham portion (Holyhead portion stuck behind the WAG for 2 hours).
The 0835 was 3 hours late, losing 2 hours at Bangor and another hour before Rhyl.

Seems to be frequent breakdowns with this service. Is there an underlying issue?
Does highlight the total lack of any resilience on the coast.

The new signalling which is supposed to be going in soon will have limited reversible capability, so complete stops like this should be avoidable in the future.

Ran as 1T91 10 35 Colwyn Bay to Chester with 67017 and 67029 on rear.
Can find nothing in RTT but reported Stock and 67017 at Cardiff for WAG tonight.

The new signalling which is supposed to be going in soon will have limited reversible capability, so complete stops like this should be avoidable in the future.

In fairness there was a plan to run single line working between LLysfaen and Llandudno Junction, I'm not sure if this went ahead but 1R24 definitely went back "Bang Road" to the Junction.

Using the emergency crossover at Llysfaen would have been interesting, but I don't think it went ahead.

The Virgins were held behind, then terminated at Chester or Crewe, and the ATWs were either cancelled outright or terminated at the Junction.
