Whereabout is the picture in Consett?

I am gone to Consett this Monday, to take photo of viaduct, two railway steel works wagon display, but this one I can't find the exactly location on google map and other map
Can anyone help me point in right place

I can't locate the 'relic' for you, but I'm in no doubt where that view is. It's looking over the site of the former steel works to the south west of the town (towards The Grove). That site was left with nothing but access roads, lamposts and weeds for decades, though it was so barren and exposed that even the weeds didn't develop into anything substantial. It was flat (still is) and poorly drained so although it is high up, it can be boggy. The north end, near te town, is now partly occupied by retail units, and some of those access roads visible in the image have now been grassed-over. The camera is looking south west over the site, towards the Derwent Valley and Allensford, and I'll guess that it might be located somewhere near the south of the Morrisons supermarket site.


If you're going there for the sights, then I very strongly recommend the steel marvel called "Terris Novalis" which combines a celebration of precision engineering and organic diversity is one of my favourite pieces of civic art in the UK. Its also south of the town.

I'm not quite sure exactly what you're saying but there is a wagon here. It's not far from the viaduct. The artefact in the photo does not look familiar to me.

Well done. That explains why I didn't recognise it; it's not on the Waskerley Way (which I'd thoroughly recommend, and I must do again some time).

Believe me, it wasn't very easy... I spent over an hour looking in the wrong place until I found the exact same picture on Google by chance, I then expanded the search for the image on Google via right click, that threw up the YouTube video ( I think the photo is a still from that ) and once I could see the new houses opposite.... even then it wasn't simple as the houses are now half hidden by trees. Once I found what looked like the houses, it was a question of scanning the bank for the object.

Great thanks for all your kind help, I went there and I have took picture, it was cold, damp and thick fog but it looks beautiful & I have been walking on the top of Consett Viaduct I didn't know it was a single line!
Shame about closed the Consett Steels works.

The viaduct looks very tall at that angle. I've only ever seen the view from the viaduct, not looking up at it from below.

If the Weardale Railway will take us and our bikes from Bishop Auckland West to Stanhope in 2016, I'd definitely do this again next year.
