Leeds Station concourse and platform improvements

Does anyone know what is happening regarding Burger King at Leeds station? It has been shut 2-3 weeks now I believe.

I know there were plans to move it somewhere but nothing obvious seems to have popped up anywhere else in the station!

Have they gone skint in terms of customers now they pulled 20% Bite card discount?

Given that there's nowhere to actually eat the food, it wouldn't surprise me if figures were low.

They also didn't adhere to any of the voucher offers, so you're usually better off using the one on Boar Lane anyway.

I noticed the Journeys Friend next door was also closed this morning.

Nearest one will be near the bottom of Briggate, 5 mins from station

Why I don't use the one at Man Pic, no seating. Only public seating in the station is a couple of benches in the upper concourse in a dark area with very low ceiling and the Wetherspoons outdoor seating which I don't feel right using for another companies food.

This goes to show how much attention I pay, I commute through Leeds everyday and hadn't even noticed the closures! But it will be a welcome change to open up the area to more exits as there can be quite a bottleneck there even outside of the peaks, let alone in them.

There are a few benches along the glass screen to the platforms, plus some on the concourse end of the travelator although those are within the ticketed area.

Have you ever seen a vacant one of those though? and right in the middle of the thoroughfare.

It will almost certainly make it feel less cramped. The concourse at Leeds isn't particularly large as it is

Regards the entrance, it isn't those units that are causing the problem. They're ugly, and removing them will help a little, but the serious congestion problem whereby people have to cross the 2 roads from City Square and funnel through footpaths barely wide enough for 2 abreast... in the case of the exit onto New Station St, single file at parts fue to the M&S fire repairs. World class gateway to a thriving, modern, Northern Powerhouse city? Pah. That's what this is really about.

Yes, it's true. The station approach pavements aren't fit for purpose, particularly the one towards Boar Lane. Unfortunately, it's difficult to see what they can do without removing the road. Perhaps they could turn this into a single lane one way bus lane to serve the interchange and remove the taxis to the Wellington concourse pick up point.

At least we have the Wellington Street concourse and entrance which is rather more fitting for a city like Leeds.

Yes, that could work (providing pedestrians get right of way). I've been quite impressed with the shared space in Wakefield.

That area M&S is in, was the restaurant part of BK, similar thing has happened at the Liverpool Lime Street BK.

Please, please No! It is always heavily congested, and difficult enough to use as it is (what with that lovely steep approach, and exit curve that is impassable if anything else is nearby). Putting taxis there would simply stop anyone - even taxis - using it.

why is there such unhappiness about a manky burger joint when you can walk to wetherspoons and get a decent if unspectacular burger AND a pint for better value?

Yes it is but not as nice I don't think. The Wetherspoon is indeed a great asset at LDS and other stations to have it and thank goodness they've not yet gone down the Airport route and made their station sites more expensive.

There are 5 'Spoons in Leeds and they all have slightly different pricing. Bizarre really!

One has just opened up in Meadowhell and charged £3.05 for the privilege of a pint of Carlsberg! Don't think the rent there is too cheap

I would guess the station McDonalds will be closed for a short while in the not too distant future to put in those fancy self service systems they've been rolling out.

If this be the case, now that the other matter has been split into a different thread, why has the name of this thread been left as "Burger King Leeds Station" as people looking at the thread index could be confused.
