Won't work, France has signed up to all the UN, European Union and Council of Europe Conventions of Human Rights that that the United Kingdom has signed up to as well as a few more so it will be challenged in the courts.

I do wonder if these people really have much idea of geography? They all seem to concentrate themselves to their perception of the closest port to England, but there are numerous other places of entry they could try.

My friends husband is an old hand in the Royal Navy (since the early 80's), he's been working on offshore patrols for a number of recent years and it's clear through his comments that the smugglers do indeed operate into just about anywhere on the coast of the UK, he's spent a lot of time on patrol around the coast of the Highlands, Islands and North Sea and been involved in numerous operations to counter, drugs, arms and people smuggling.

If they can charter a ship, they'd get into the country relatively easily really. There are plenty of tiny little harbours where nobody would notice.

They focus on Calais because that's where the bulk of the freight trade goes through. It's also the shortest crossing, which reduces the risk of being caught whilst at sea.

ah! Agreed. I assume it is becuase:

1) They don't know the are "British" and

2) Much harder to vanish into the black economy on a very small island like Jersey or Guernsey and

3) Easier for the authorities to round you up

I wouldn't have thought many would. The Channel Islands, like the Isle of Man, are Crown Dependencies and are not part of the United Kingdom. I can't imagine they'd be of much interest to people wanting to be in the United Kingdom.
