Manchester to Taunton

Evening all

I'm needing to travel to Taunton on Friday October 30th, departure can be either Manchester Piccadilly or Manchester Airport. Ideally arrive in Taunton around 1500.

Return will be Sunday 1st November, back in Manchester (MAN or MIA) by 2130 at the latest so I can get the last tram home.

Just me travelling, no travelcards.

What's the best price you can find for me please?

The journey times seem to be slightly shorter from Piccadilly.

A Manchester-Taunton Advance (i.e. must travel on trains specified when booking) could be £48.90 on the morning of the 30th, and a Taunton-Manchester Advance coming back on the 1st could be £38.90.

A flexible offpeak return, allowing outward travel on the 1027 (arriving 1414) or later trains on the 30th, and allowing return travel at any time on the 1st, would be £109.10.

This is all for travel via Birmingham & Bristol.

trainsplit.com indicates that this may be reduced to £94.40 by using a combination of tickets:

You can do it for £82 by travelling on ATW/GWR via Newport (£35 + £47 Advances).

Sun TAU 1350 BPW 1438/1515 (Bus) NWP 1555/1614 MAN 1913

Some very poor connections though, and a bus ride over the Severn Bridge on Sunday.
Or you could book southbound on ATW and northbound on XC for £35 + £38.90 = £73.90 (and avoid the bus!).
