Engineering works between Millom and Whitehaven mean that the service is DMU only today.

I was stood on the platform at Silecroft awaiting the first train north which is nowadays a 37+LHCS. A couple of minutes before the appointed time (0635) I heard the roar of a 37 and looking up the line saw the headlights approaching at a fair rate of knots so I stood back from the platform edge and watched 37401 pass with its stock at full line speed. As far as I could tell, there were no passengers and the signaller confirmed this adding that there was a unit following it. I waited and a unit did closely follow - a single 142 loaded to the gunwales!

37402 on the Preston Barrow turn today and 37401 on the 11:38 from Barrow to Carlisle.

37401 set off 7min late after a "technical fault" and an extra bloke in Hi Viz recruited but we made that up quickly. Looking at the operation it is obvious why they lose time: it is the doors (both passengers not opening them and not shutting them) and which coaches are on the platform with people nipping up or down the train to get off.

The coaches were really clean and well presented, the loos better (much better) than a lot of Northern Rail stock.

On my Arnside - Barrow leg it took a Revenue Protection Supervisor and a Revenue Protection Assistant (I think) 10 minutes to sell me a 4 in 8 North Country Rover (hint - type "North" into the machine and see what it offers, otherwise hope the passenger is well informed). Can anyone tell me where to find the Rovers and Rangers pages in the fares manual so I can print them? This isn't cheap point scoring off the staff, the system doesn't help them.

Nice ride, followed by CAR - HPL on the 1528 to MBR, too long on a pacer...

Andrew

Anyone know if rumoured 37259 is on for the DBSO today?

402 (South) End 259 (North). Problem not known

Thanks.

DBSO on maintenance I was reliably informed. On my way for it.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Went out for 37259 today, totally messed up the diagrams, and ended up on 37612. Luckily both required. :D

259 did one journey and subbed due to speedo defect apparently.

Where do you all get your gen from so quickly? If I were to want hear about a NB 37 (not 37/4) in time to get out for it, where do I need to sign up?

There may be a gen group but I usually get mine from a contact in the industry. Even so, trust me that if I had no prior warning, it is very rare I can make it on the day.

The links posted in Post 566 is also good for fairly up-to-date gen, especially now that the guy is back from holiday and the pages are updated daily again.

How reliable are the 37s running to time at the moment - particualrly is the connection at Barrow between the 11:33 arrival from Preston and 11:38 departure to Carlisle being maintained?
RTT indicates some late running recently and one day the arrival was after the Carlisle train had left.

I'm planning a round trip using the Northern £10 tokens - probably 0900 form Skipton & change at Lancaster to Barrow. not sure if the connections at Barrow would be safe enough especially as I'll have luggage with me. at some point afterwards I need to go south from either Carlisle/Newcastle or Leeds on an advanced single (not yet booked) so want to make sure I don't get stuck in the wrong place or have an easy escape route. Othewise I can go from Skipton via Settle but then the coast I think is in a unit.

Fairly well other than today when the connection wasn't held. I'm hoping it does tomorrow.

They normally hold the connection if the incoming train is only a few minutes late. This is the first instance I have heard of the connection not being held, presumably due to the delay being larger than usual.

This has happened a handful of times but more often than not it makes it. Noticed the 14:35 to BIF come in to CAR last Fri, tip out, load up and depart again within 3 mins although still 10 down sadly but pritty good I thought.

Cancellations to services at Sellafield

Following signalling problems at Sellafield all lines have now reopened.
Impact:
Train services running through this station are returning to normal but some services may still be cancelled or delayed. Disruption is expected until 08:30 09/10.
Due to a shortage of available signallers, services between Millom and Whitehaven are currently suspended.

05:15 Carlisle to Preston due 09:38 This train has been delayed at Whitehaven by 31 minutes, has been further delayed at St Bees and is now 41 minutes late.
This train will be terminated at Lancaster.

10:04 Preston to Barrow-In-Furness due 11:33 This train will be started from Lancaster.
This train will no longer call at Preston.

08:42 Carlisle to Barrow-In-Furness due 11:32 This train will be started from Workington.
This train will no longer call at Carlisle, Dalston, Wigton, Aspatria, Maryport and Flimby.

Chaos!!

Any Engineering Work will be shown on the National Rail Enquiries website. Clic on date then clic on TOC (NT) and the details will be there. If you go to RTT the train details are there.

The 10:04 Preston to Barrow was operated using a pacer this morning.
Fortunately the previous TPE service (masquerading as a Nothern 156) was running late so I had caught that to Barrow to give more time for the connection (& to get get some tea at Barrow) - the pacer was somewhat crowded when it pulled in.
The 11:38 from Barrow to Carlisle ran to time.

Possession overrun on the coast, meant the loco hauled set was running late from Carlisle and thus the pacer stepped up at Barrow to work South.

Looks like a bad night at Green Rd....Monday's 17.37 ex Carlisle expired at Green Rd(20.16) presumably resulting in a 1Z99 23.30 Preston-Green Rd...described on RTT as a "domestic sleeper"..Green Rd arr 01.34.....5c42 ecs then headed for Carlisle via Carnforth at 01.53.

Not a bad place to have to wait (in daylight though). The station gardens are very well maintained by a local volunteer.
