Freight terminals that have OPENED since 1980

As far as I know the terminal at Telford has never been used by revenue earning freight.

Castle donnington (for M&S) don't think it has ever been used.

No, despite much fanfare when it opened it has never been used. Laughably there are now plans to open a new freight terminal next to the Toyota car plant which is just a few miles away. Why on earth anyone expects that rail freight terminal to be any busier is beyond me.

At least cars are easier to move in bulk by rail than road.

Well yes but the car plant haes been open for over twenty years and yet Toyota have not shown any interest in exporting cars by train. My sister lives in Eggington which is very close to the proposed site and the literature that Jaynie has received on the site just mentions warehousing and nothing about cars.

One modest success story has been the Intermodal terminal at Burton which is currently served by two trains a day, one from Felixstowe and one from Southampton. In the past the terminal also received trains carrying steel but as far as I know that stopped some time a go.

In the Bristol area we have a few.
First, the coal loading plant at Avonmouth.
Then the facilities at Portbury, cars and coal.
And then the reopening of West depot for the Wineliners.
We also had the temporary steel terminal at East depot when they brought in all the steel framing for the Cabot Circus shopping centre building.

Is the freight terminal at Bristol West still used by rail freight? I've not read anything about it recently and so assumed it had gone in the same direction as the much vaunted freight terminal at Fratton which had also hoped to see train loads of alcoholic beverages.

The problem is there are only perhaps three or four wagon load freight services left and that in turn has killed off so many of these rail freight terminals.

Peel who own the adjacent site, now being marketed as Knowlsey 700 is promoting it as being adjacent to a railhead. May be a question of watch this space?

1) Stobarts (O'Connors) Terminal - Widnes. (Site of BOC but completely redeveloped).
2) AHC Sidings, Widnes.
3) Gladstone Steel Terminal - Liverpool Docks (Now closed & demolished, replace by new Biomass Terminal)
4) Atlantic Terminal - Liverpool Docks (Last used 7/8 years ago).
5) Liverpool Bulk Terminal - Liverpool Docks
6) EMR Scrap, Alexandra Dock, Liverpool Docks
7) Ravenhead (Pilkingtons), St Helens - (relocated).

the wonderful automated wearehouse and stock management system has take rather longer to work then they hoped , hence large volumes remaining with 3PLs ...

The sidings at Ribblehead have in recent years seen use to load logs that have been cut on the nearby fells but I've not seen any evidence of the sidings being used this summer. They were also used to load stone a year or so a go but that was only on a very short term basis.

However hope springs eternal on the S & C with a newly constructed rail served stone terminal at nearby Stainforth which is due to open later this year.

How sure are you of that one? With Peel involved, what they say and what they do are two different things. It would be nice though and fingers cross it actually happens.

Yes its used as an aggregate terminal. However as far as I know the track into the warehouse has never been used.
