EMT - Final run with a Valenta HST

Special train to York and Scarborough – Saturday 26 July

East Midlands Trains is pleased to confirm that it plans to run an additional special train to Scarborough from Leicester, via Derby, Chesterfield, Sheffield and York and on Saturday 26 July to celebrate the last of the ‘Paxman Valenta’ high speed train engines in use on its route before they leave service later this year.

This will be an opportunity for passengers in Leicester, Derby, Chesterfield and Sheffield to take the train for a day trip to either York or Scarborough. The train is timed to allow almost five hours visit to York or more than three hours at the seaside in Scarborough. Historic York offers many attractions including the Jorvik Viking exhibition and the National Railway Museum and Scarborough offers all the delights of a good old fashioned seaside resort – so there is no shortage of reasons to take this trip.

By buying a ticket to travel on this service rail enthusiasts will also be able to travel on a high speed train powered by a pair of the very last remaining Paxman Valenta powercars before they cease to be in operation by autumn of this year.

East Midlands Trains will also be raising money for the Railway Children charity by donating all profits from the journey. Some staff working on the service are also giving their wages for the day to the charity.

In addition one lucky passenger will get the rare opportunity to ride back from Scarborough in the driver’s cab, experiencing a completely different aspect of a train journey. East Midlands Trains will be auctioning this prize on the day and donating any money raised to the charity.

These are single fares, i.e. if you want to return on the same service you will need to purchase a ticket either way.

Doubt it, was the same with FGW, after their farewell on December 1st 002, 003 (and was it 015?) carried on 002 and 3 lasting to early January, just not in a pair.

I'm just glad they are refurbishing them with VP185s and not MTUs. At least VPs are made by paxman still. (not ranting about MTUs!)

The Gen was never given out as the final Day of Valentas on fGW. It was just the Farewell. 015 Not involved, nor was 034. But Both were out in service.

Well someone must have gave the gen out as there was a fair few cranks on board 002's last diagram, can't remember what it was with (152 rings a bell) but I had it Newport - Cardiff - Swindon, a slight diversion while in the process of meeting a freind at Swindon.
