Odd that there was a load of site clearance done a few years ago, then it was all allowed to get overgrown again. Seems to be far more work going on this time so hopefully it will soon see some use.

With any luck it won't be the same white elephant that Fratton goods yard was, I think that handled about 5 trains in total.

Hope aggregates now run the adjacent concrete plant, at the south end of the site, so presumably the idea is they will deliver their own 'ingredients' from their own quarries by rail. In other words they aren't doing this speculatively.

Out of interest - how is it pronounced - 'bee-voice' perhaps?

"Beevis" is the normal local pronunciation, I believe. A neighbour of mine usually used something more like "Beevus".

Where is Bevois Park Yard on Google Earth?

I can't get a link from my iPad, but if you can find Northam Depot, head north to the other side of the Mount Pleasant level crossing, the fairly large triangular area on the west side where the railway runs right against the River Itchen is Bevois Park yard.
There are two reception lines that run parallel to the up slow between the level crossing and just south of St Denys station, they are in normal use, No 1 is used for units shunting from Southampton into Northam Depot, No 2 against the yard fence is regularly used by Freightliner to store container flats.

I wouldn't be surprised if Siemens want some more sidings, I think Northam gets a bit busy.

Nothing to do with Siemens. The site is being cleared and sidings laid.

Agree, I was really only replying to the point made above that Siemens were running out of space, which I don't think has any justification.

We could already 'take it as read' that this was a Hope Aggregates project. But now that I've found the planning application on the local website I know for certain that is what it is.

If anyone wants to look it up the reference is 14/01998/FUL

From the planning statement:

4.8 The proposals will introduce rail fed aggregate delivery to the site, where aggregate will be imported by rail and then exported to the local market and another concrete batching plant in Portsmouth via HGV’s, and utilised on site to manufacture concrete. It is proposed to increase the importation of aggregate to the site from around 47,500 tonnes to around 135,867 tonnes. Of this 7,500 tonnes will be delivered by road with the remainder delivered by rail.

I assume that figure is per annum. They reckon it is roughly 100 train loads per year:

Again, in terms of aggregate importation Hope Construction Materials are anticipating bringing in approximately 128,205 tonnes of aggregate each year by rail. This equates on average to 100 train loads per annum, utilising the existing rail line.

The entire layout of the site will be transformed, with a new concrete batching plant to the north west side of the site, and a variety of new storage areas. The new yard will occupy the north end of the site, and the drawings seem to indicate that the main siding will run parallel to the existing reception sidings but inside the boundary, over most of the site's length.

I can remember years ago this yard was very busy so this is exciting news.

Thanks to swt_passenger for posting the planning link.
