I am planning for a trip in Sept of going from Euston to BNS. If i buy an off peak single at £24.00 could i alight at Bletchley and Coventry (i want to get the DMUs operating on the branches) or would i have to buy separate tickets as in Euston to BY, BY to Cov and Cov to BNS. Any advice please. Thanks

I'm 99% certain you can break your journey in that manner.

Break of Journey is permitted on the Any Permitted ticket, but *not* on the London Midland Only ones, though some might argue that if you're just riding a branch line you haven't left Railway property and thus it isn't BoJ. Your mileage may vary on that one

Only for the sort of miscreant who uses CRS codes without first naming the stations.

Looking at the ticket restrictions, London Midland Only off-peak singles don't allow break of journey, whereas Any Permitted ones do. The same applies for super off peak ones.

Is there a possibility of London Midland running the Great Escape offer this September? It would simplify the OPs plans somewhat.

Thanks for the replies going to cost a lot more now £34.40 on singles. 0913 Eust to BY £15.40 stay there to get both the units on the Bedford line, 1024 BY to Cov £15.40 to get the DMU on the Nuneaton line and the 1142 Cov to BNS sorry BHM £3.60, trying to get as many TS 153/150s as poss still need a few.

You can buy an off peak return from Birmingham to London (LM Only) for £28, you can then throw away the outward half, and use the return half from London to Birmingham (the return half allows break of journey)

But then what code would you use for Bootle New Strand?

I wouldn't say the set of CRS codes which was chosen was the best possible selection (for instance, stations with names starting with "Bed" have codes BDH, BDM, BDW, BEH, BMT and BSJ, but nothing has BED as a code). Most town and cities with more than one fairly central station do have a station with a code based on the town name rather than the station name (MAN, SOU, WRX, etc.). Someone somewhere decided that Birmingham should not be one of the exceptions to this (as Birkenhead, Exeter and Southend are).

Unlikely. Great Escapes are only usually available during school holidays
