I had planned on being up and going for a rid eon the first passenger train across the new bridge, but that did't quite happen what with my bout of "lazy-bone-itis"

Thanks for the video. Might go and get a day tripper ticket in the next couple of days and traverse it a couple of times enroute to various destinations.

Assuming you can still get the "Daytripper" tickets now that First don't run the services.

Assuming you were just wanting to try out the new bridge a few times worth remembering the Whifflet line is wholly within the "Roundabout" validity area, saving a few quid:

Ah right, thanks for that info. I will look in to the are covered by the "roundabout". I fancy a wee day travelling all over the network including over to the various stations on the west coast and up to Balloch etc. Of course, I'd prefer a sunny day so could be waiting a while.

Looks like a speed restriction on the bridge as services going very slow over the new bridge

Really Fantastic - time lapse video showing the bridge being driven in with SPMT's.

I was part of the team did the bridge on the A46 - a very similar project -

It's interesting that it seems to be called a bridge slide on the BBC news - this is technically incorrect as the bridge is driven into place. Originally the A46 bridge was going to be slid into place on slide track rails and jacked over into position - i had a real battle to get it changed to SPMT's - especially as we only had 83hrs to install the bridge.

I am working on a bridge Drive (week 30) in Derbyshire - this one the is only 100t (where as Bingham was close to 1200t) - the planning these days is just phenomenal - so fair play to the team that did the new Bargeddie Bridge.

The modules can be connected to multi-wheel transporters to transport a load that is too big or too heavy for a truck or low-loader. The SPMT can rotate around its center to make a 360° turn (carrousel) and can move sideways. Each SPMT axle can carry up to 40 metric tonnes, including its own weight. I knew that but only after encountering them recently.

Thanks for that post dbmbridges. Interesting that the people on site at Bargeddie were referring to a 'slide' as well when I spoke to them, though Mammoet must have been booked for the job by then.
