While I concur that there are 2 separate stations on different lines that can be reached from here, whether you go to South Ruislip or Ealing Broadway, the first station passed on either route is Acton Mainline and so I do not feel it meets the rule of having 2 different stations on different routes.

Rule as noted

At the start of a game, the OP(at the very beginning or if necessary) or the player who previously ended a leg of the journey, will choose a starting station (unless the player has called an open floor, in which any player can choose a starting station) that adheres to the following criteria:

It is on NR rails (or Merseyrail)
It is not just a terminal station (There are two or more different stations that can be reached from it, on separate lines.)
It is not the same station as the one which ended the previous leg.

Once a starting station has been selected, players can take turns at moving to following stations. The next station on a passenger line that serves the starting station is entirely valid, as is travelling in any direction if there are one or more junctions nearby. If the station is served by a faster service along any passenger line, it is valid provided that you quote the operator and route. A route name should not be specified, but the nearest passenger stations to the start and end of the route should be specified in brackets (These do not need to be submissions to the quiz).

If we allow Paddington, we have to allow all London termini apart from Charing Cross and Cannon Street plus other provincial termini.

My adjudication concurs with what is said above, subject to the routings be checked.

The West Ruislip parly is booked to branch off at Old Oak West Jn, and so does not pass through Acton Main Line. See: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/P74699/2015/07/20/advanced for the booked routing.

I think as things stand, it has to be accepted as a valid start station, but I am happy to be overuled by Paul.

That said, I do accept your premise. Paul, can you remember the intent behind the rule?

As far as Google sees it, Acton ML is not on the path of Chiltern services to and from S Ruislip. Therefore, Paddington is valid.

We appear to be in the situation of all the three senior adjudicators having a slightly different view on this particular matter. I can just about remember receiving a whole series of PM from contestants in the frenetic days of January 2012 when this quiz was in its fourth month of entity and this matter was one that two schools of thought would not reconcile themselves in the same way as the Sunni and Shia versions of Islam would not so agree.

In the knowledge that established railway operational matters can be proved one way or another, I withdraw my previous adjudication and will let the matter be resolved by others. It is worth noting that one of the two co-opted adjudicators, backontrack is currently away on holiday.

Thanks very much for making that statement, Paul. You can now safely ignore the PM I was sending you as I was posting this.

It seems Buttsy has withdrawn his objection, an as far as I can see, Padd is technically a valid start station, though those who know stance before the last rule revision will know my position on the matter. I think the consensus therefore is carry on, so carry on I shall.

In this instance I withdraw my request for adjudication as my memory failed me as to the exact location of Acton Mainline and so it is possible to use 2 different routes out of Paddington without passing through the same station on the way to either South Ruislip or Acton Mainline.

I'd put a petard in my ear and detonate it if Greenford didn't turn out to be the points. Please start the next leg, DasLunatic.

I seem to be having luck with London termini at the moment, so the next game starts at London Victoria.
