Was just reading the Cambridge North thread and saw Greenbacks idea of renaming airports after celebrities

With reference to Swansea's recently departed and much admired homeless gentleman, I'm tempted to ask for the lamentable Swansea Airport to be renamed 'Tea Cosy Pete Airport' but I think that would be more of an insult to the man than an honour.

Thinking about it, I'm surprised that Llanelli station hasn't been renamed as 'Ray Gravell' given the love for the man around these parts.

They don't have to be local to the area but would be good if they were as close as possible. However the first thing that popped into me head was

Manston - Charles Manson.

Probably not the best idea Ive ever had for a thread but Im bored.

There were plans a while ago by the Scottish Parliament to rename Prestwick as Robert Burns Airport. Needless to say, it never got off the ground (pardon the pun).

Glasgow International could easily be renamed to Gerry Rafferty, as the airport is actually in Paisley, with Gerry originally being from Paisley as well.

Birmingham International could be renamed to Ozzy Osbourne - the frontman of the original line up of one of my favourite bands Black Sabbath.

Manchester I would rename as Emmeline Pankhurst, for the role she played in eventually securing the right of women having the vote.

East Midlands would be tricky, as you would have to have one from Derby, one from Nottingham, and one from Leicester so as not to upset the other two. The Leicester person I would go for would be Jon Lord, the former keyboard player in Deep Purple who sadly passed away a few years ago, the Nottingham I would go for would be either Brian Clough (OK, he was originally from Middlesbrough, but spent most of his managerial career at Nottingham Forest winning the European Cup twice in 1979 and 1980), or Torville and Dean. Derby, I cannot remember a well known person who is from there.

East Midlands would have to be after Cloughie if only as a way to keep both ends of the Brian Clough Express way happy! He did quite well as Derby manager also ;)

Being as he grew up in Dunston, I think it's better to rename that run-down-shabby-well-past-its-best-and-only-useful-a-couple-of-times-a-day-station after Paul Gascoigne...

I know Norman Cook has links with the city of Brighton and Hove, but given he initially found fame as a member of The Housemartens, there might be competition from Humberside Airport for that name... Even though Amy Johnson would be a more fitting candidate.

Leeds-Bradford Airport could become Keith Lemon International, of course...
I've always thought Robin Hood was a stupid name for an airport that isn't in Nottingham (regardless of historical fact, most people associate Robin Hood with Nottingham) but as it is near Doncaster, Jeremy Clarkson International would be a great name for attracting flights from Buenos Aires...
Struggling to think of any others, perhaps Aberdeen could be Denis Law Airport?

For Cardiff Airport, well Tom Jones International would be too easy, but may be Nye Bevan Internation, as Cardiff shares a lot with the NHS: underfunded, unloved etc

Lorraine Kelly Airport (Dundee). Quite apt given that she's probably the only person who actually uses the flights from there...

Reckon all airports should follow Oxford and Southend and just add the London prefix to their names.

London Liverpool John Lennon Airport
London Birmingham Airport
London Tees Valley Airport
London Prestwick (for Glasgow)
