Rumour from Northern towers is that 150134 will be entering service with the 52 car of 150225 which was damaged in the accident at Knarsbourgh. The 57 car is going away to works and will apparently be away for 6-8 weeks.

Looks like someone using noggin at Northern!

Would that make it 3 car then, akin to the examples that used to run on the Snow Hill Lines, or do both units currently have one carriage out of action?

Sorry should have made that clearer. Yes it's going to be Northerns first 3 car set. Albeit temporary!

Good to see Northern doing something to reduce the impact of being a unit down, especially while they're still missing 144012... I don't think they've done so before (though FGW have previously paired undamaged halves of 150s with 153s). I just hope it doesn't get sent into Huddersfield platform 5 by an unsuspecting signaller!

EDIT: By the way, what was the Knaresborough incident? I think I missed that...

Twenty years since hybrid 150s were in regular use across the GMPTE area, and the wheel has turned full circle. Albeit this time as a response to a singular incident, which is a good bit of planning on Northern's part to keep the maximum number of available vehicles in service.

Some Clitheroe workings are usually 150+153 so it's likely one of those diagrams.

Slightly off-topic, but the regular diagrams have been ditched during the Farnworth Tunnel works and there isn't the 3-car diagram at the moment. At the moment the diagrams are mostly Vic - Clitheroe - Vic - Blackpool North - Vic.

Yesterday it worked 2M20 (1718 LDS to MCV) and 2E23 (1848 MCV to LDS).

No idea if this is regular or not.

At Huddersfield There's a track berth on the approach to the east end entrance signal to the station which measures the length of approaching trains and the signaller as far as I'm aware is unable to pull off the signal for pl 5 unless the train fits within the track berth. The track Berth consists of 2 boxes at the side of the track and you have to get the train really close to the signal before it clears, abit daunting first few times you do it. I'm not sure on the ins and outs of how the signaller operates it, as drivers all we know is that if the signaller is wishing to put something in pl 5 then on approach to the station the signal will not pull off until your right up to the signal and your trains being measured and found to be okay to fit into the platform.

That's interesting, presumably at that point the train in question is still able to be diverted into 4a or 6 (and indeed any trains occupying those platforms are able to leave)?

I have noticed that for most of the day with the current timetable, Huddersfield would be fine without 5 as long as everything is running smoothly. In the future though, that might not be the case...

Is 150134 likely to find its way to Huddersfield via Marsden in 3-car form? Not sure if 3x20m fits in Slaithwaite, I did see a 4-car 156 formation in 4b at HUD the other day, but in that case one unit would presumably be locked out until Greenfield or even Stalybridge. What would happen if a 3x20m unit won't fit? Local door only (assuming 150/1s have this mode available)?

I'm not conversant with Northern Diagrams, but if there is a 150+153 Combo starting and finishing at NH, it could work this.

If it worked the 1848 Manchester Victoria to Leeds then, from RTT, I think it ended at Neville Hill last night and may be doing 'east side' work. I think there are some 153+15x diagrams on the east side too.

It's called Lime Street Control (since it was first used there). The signaller sets the route, which would normally clear the signal, but it remains on until the train is within the relevant track circuit(s), whereupon the system will clear the signal with no further input from the signaller necessary.

I believe it has worked todays 17:18pm York - Blackpool North

Hmm, while the enthusiast discussion thinks it should substitute for 150+153 workings, Northern have it out providing cover for 3-car 158 diagrams (although it could just be that it replaced one yesterday and continued this morning).

EDIT - appears to have picked up the diagram at Leeds this morning following an earlier cancellation

Yeah platform 5 isn't heavily used, think some units may be stabled over night in it and sees some Wakefield services use it around evening time. Yeah if you get into track circuits with a train which is too
Long signaller won't be able to clear signal for pl 5 so will have to put train in 4 or 6. Max pl 5 can take is 150 2 car and local door will be on slope.

I was not aware of any 150 workings at Huddersfield other than those arriving from the Manchester direction.
