Richmond - Ascot - London Zones

This Saturday, I need to travel:
morning: Richmond - Ascot
afternoon: Ascot - Waterloo (passing through Richmond)
evening: take a bunch of trips around London by bus and underground

The logical ticket would be an Ascot - London Zones 1-6 off peak day travelcard but I don't know if you can do the journey to Ascot in reverse (probably not).

Any advice on best tickets to use for this type of journey?

You can't do the journey in reverse. However, you can buy a zones 1-6 travelcard and a Feltham to Ascot return.
