I'm still having trouble finding out how over 1400 members are less than half the members balloted. According to the Swindon advertiser, the RMT say around 2000 members will be involved in the action. This would imply that around 2000 members would have bern eligible to vote. 1400 out of 2000 (in round figures) is a lot more than 50%, 1200 voting for action is a lot more than 50%. http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/...s_RMT_members_to_strike_for_24_hours/?ref=rss

Regarding the permanence of the TM role, our job and role is only guaranteed for the next four and a half years. This has been said to several colleagues, and myself, by several managers of various grades (reportedly by Directors as well).
When I asked a manager why Southern and East Coast were not taking the same path, I was told that FGW were trialling it.
