Unlike Michael Portillo with his well-worn copy of Bradshaw, to see where railways once went to, we "Trust in God" and use our souvenir edition of the RailUK "Closed Stations Journey Quiz" and we next decide to take a local omnibus service and we board the 1815 Stagecoach West Scotland service 367 to Portpatrick (Post Office) that arrives there at 1834 on Friday evening.

Walking to bus stop on South Crescent, we then head back to main transport provisions as we don't want to be stuck in obscure villages, so we board the 1925 Stagecoach West Scotland service 367 back to Stranraer (George Street), arriving there at 1946 on Friday evening.

We walk to Stranraer railway station for 1K88, the 2113 ScotRail departure. We take this to Ayr, arriving 2234 on Friday evening.

We continue towards the city as we board 2K08, the 2300 ScotRail service to Glasgow Central, arriving there at 0001 in the early hours of Saturday morning.

After quickly having gone to the local pub for a drink and a wee, we hop back on the next train to Glasgow Central which departs at 23:00 sharp, arriving into Glasgow Central at 00:01 on Satuday morning (? night of Friday onto Saturday)

Hey, steady on there, you obviously have never been there like we have. Portpatrick is quite a nice place on the coast, with a good golf club and with views of the Northern Ireland coastline across the waters

After buying breakfast at the snack bar just outside the station, it is time to leave Scotland behind as we board 1V56, the 0805 CrossCountry service. We take this to Penzance, arriving 1934 on Saturday evening.

We then exit the station and head to the bus station, where we board the 1950 First Devon & Cornwall service 17A to St Ives (Malakoff), arriving there at 2025 on Saturday evening.

Wishing to see another obscure but delightfully named settlement, we next board the 2030 First in Devon and Cornwall service 17A to Rose-an-Grouse (Lamb and Flag) that arrives there at 2049 on Saturday evening.

So just to clarify, if we (for example) got to Fishguard Harbour, would it then be OK to board a ferry to Northern Ireland (since it's part of the UK)?

I could not find a source for the service that specified the stop used, so let's go with that one.

After an hour exploring Megavissey, we return to the same bus stop to board the 1402 First Devon & Cornwall service 24 to St Austell Bus Station, arriving 1419 on Sunday afternoon.

There's a bit of a wait at the station, but our patience is rewarded with an HST. We board it at 1559, and then zoom across the Cornish countryside and arrive into the lights and sounds of London Paddington at 2029 Sunday afternoon.

And another hour in St Austell before we catch the 15:20 First Devon & Cornwall service to Bodmin General Station, arriving at 16:20 on Sunday afternoon.

Then, we decide to head to Heathrow Airport Terminals 1-3, by splashing out on the 20:55 Heathrow Express 1T87 service which arrives there at 21:09 on Sunday evening.

There's a bit of a wait at the station, but our patience is rewarded with an HST. We board it at 1559, and then zoom across the Cornish countryside and arrive into the lights and sounds of London Paddington at 2029 Sunday afternoon.

I do not wish to unduly rain of your parade, but having arrived at 1419 at the bus station in St Austell, a cursory glance would tell you that bus services from there are still running long before your 1559 departure from the railway station stated above.

I will give you one such example...the 1445 First in Devon and Cornwall service 101 to Bodeiva (The Eden Project) that arrives there at 1504 on Sunday afternoon.

Next we take the 2123 Piccadilly line service to Bounds Green, arriving 2237 on Sunday evening.

That was the last train of the day, so we get in our sleeping bag and await the arrival of the 0415 Great Northern service to London King's Cross. We arrive at 0502 Monday morning.
