And no more public transport, so we call it a night.

We find the buses start before the trains do in the morning, so we catch the first bus of the morning, the 05:04 Stagecoach Merseyside number 21 service towards Liverpool. We alight at Liverpool Queens Square Bus Station at 05:40 on Friday morning.

Allowing for the five minute interchange and one minute walk between the stations, we should have plenty of time to get to North Western station where we board the 09:43 First Transpennine Express service 1S40 towards Glasgow. We alight in Lockerbie at 11:29 on Friday morning.

We have a quick, but manageable change at the rather scenic Whitestands bus station, overlooking the Nith. We transfer onto the 12:30 Stagecoach West Scotland service 502 to Castle Douglas (Carlingwark Street), arriving at 13:02 on Friday afternoon.

Number added in retrospect

Leaving one "Castle" named settlement for another, we next board the 1405 Stagecoach West Scotland service 500 to Castle Kennedy (Hamilton Road) that arrives there at 1540 on Friday afternoon.
