G'day guys, just wondering as a newbie where everyone was from? When I was living in England for a few months back in 2003 I was staying in Mill Hill, near Edgware. So I guess it might help to say the name of your town/city and aprox kms from London might help create a mental map.

Thanks guys.
Ryan.

Awesome, so are other members scattered all over the UK, or are you's mostly all from one area?

*To go with the flow, I am 10,528 miles (16,943km) from central London, just a tad too far to travel on my bike!

Ryan.

Cool, I think it's great to have people all over the country, no doubt there are different things happening in various parts of the coutry to report back on.

Out of interest, what do they call rail enthusiasts there? Here we are called 'Gunzels', which to me sounds a bit better than a trainspotter, not that I mind being called one.

A whole host of terms for trainspotters over here. I forget what the full list is, but someone will have it somewhere.

Staffordshire, approx 110 miles from london (not far enough away! )

But I was from nearer your neck of the woods, I was born & lived in Innisfail, Queensland Australia for the early part of my life.

My details beneath the avatar tell you - that's about 275 miles North of London - which is far enough for comfort, if not a tad too close to Jock Land :)

Aureol - I drove north through Alfreton on Friday evening - I blinked, and nearly missed it! Mrs eezypeazy's parents live in Killamarsh - last bit of North East Derbyshire before South Yorkshire!

If you take a number to put it in your caption for a photo, still counts as 'spotting' to me!8)
How is it?
I don't take numbers or anything, I merely look at the numbers of the trains in my pictures. If I can't see the numbers clearly then I merely don't enter a number into the caption. Simple.

Shame, you should have told me and I'd have nipped out and had a chat or something in Wetherspoon's ;)
And I know Killamarsh fairly ok, but it's near Yorkshire so doesn't really interest me......hello David! 8)

Hi! I'm from Coatbridge, about 10 miles to the East of Glasgow. From London, II'm only about 403 miles away.

Scotland has a unique rail scene. Most services are operated by one company (First Scotrail) with intercity services to England operated by some others. The Electric Multiple Units up here only operate in Scotland (like 314s, 320s, 334s) although are usually similar to different classes operating in England.

Out of curiosity, does noting down the numbers of the trains you travel on classify you as a spotter?

Milnthorpe. 7miles from Kendal and about 14 (I think!) from Lancaster.

No idea how far from London, but far enough...I hope!
