Don't see any signs of decent real beer either. Web site doesn't mention it and they normally do.
Only local fares on the Borders Line it seems. No through fares that I can see. It's a start though.
There was definitely a pub in Stow the last time I was there. It had run out of draught beer and only had warm bottles so might have just as well been dry!
Headed up to the Dean Tavern at Newtongrange afterwards a much better choice. I was on the X95 pub crawl - warning no toilets on the bus!
There is a Marstons around a five to ten minutes walk of Shawfair, does a nice rotisserie chicken so it does

Tweedbank was built in the 1970s as a dry village. Herges' has only been there a few years. Why do you think the Black Path to Gala is so popular with walkers and cyclists?
Best option is either getting off in Gala or testing the new integrated Borders public transport system and getting a bus to Melrose.

This is a about 3 miles of the line in 3 minutes for Torsonce just south of Stow to Halkburn north of Galashiels and another 3 back. Just 33 to go to capture the whole line. Shot over 4 days.

Thanks for posting - that's a great idea! A lot of work for you, but much appreciated. You have obviously scouted the locations well.
scotrail have stated that in the coming weeks through fares will become available
personally I think the uproar about the initial ticketing error was way over the top----it makes no difference to the price when you buy a ticket
the way it was reported by local news and press one would think the eildon hills had erupted
I know, it was utterly crazy wasn't it? Given that there's no advantage in buying tickets in advance on the new line anyway, it's barely even an issue.
Not that that's going to stop the media creating furore - anything that makes a public infrastructure project look bad is good news - they'll be trading on the Edinburgh Trams project for years to come. I loved this bit at the bottom of the BBC news article I quoted earlier:
True, but to be fair you can still snap tickets up early by buying your VTEC/XC/VWC/whatever Advance from Edinburgh and just buying your Borders-Edinburgh ticket on the day - indeed, in my experience, this yields the best value tickets in general for elsewhere in Scotland (definitely from Lanarkshire, this generates much cheaper tickets).
I have little experience of doing this so I would be very interested in experiences people have had and whether like airlines you sometimes get the connection from the regions almost free

I imagine a cheap say £35 single EDI-LON will just become £45 if a through ticket is booked from tweedbank

I usually book advance tickets from my local station in London (East Dulwich), to Scotland and get a cross-London journey for an extra £1.50 - it would be £4.20 in the peak.
Some journeys seem to be cheaper this way, others not (Sleeper fares for example)
The actual time spent travelling excluding connecting time is about the same from Gala to Berwick. But the bus only runs every 2 hours or so, so connections may be a wee bit dodgy. It would be safer to go via Edinburgh.

I see in the local press that Borders councillors are complaining that were will be no toilet facilities at tweedbank station and nor is there a bus parking space (where a shuttle bus could have transported pax to Abbotsford House etc etc )
this is of course far too late in the day considering the station is more or less completed
I hope the TOC operates more efficiently than SBC do

Very true. In fact can be counter productive to purchase tickets for local journeys in advance in certain circumstances.
