Another bugbear of mine is the use of the "f" word as some sort of all-purpose adjective, by people too lazy to think of any more suitable words.

Scrap ITV2.

It used to have a purpose - allowing you to see any programs/films you didn't see on ITV the first time, plus allowing additional sports coverage e.g. you could find an Arsenal Champions League game on ITV2 the same night a Chelsea one was on ITV. However, with the launch of other ITV channels (including ITV+1 and ITV4) it basically just left crap on ITV2.

I'd not be keen to see violent and sweary programmes taken off; the fact that they're signposted is enough, and you have the right to switch off. For me, in the appropriate context and at the right time, the content is justifiable and to remove everything would be treating the audience like children, and going down the Mary Whitehouse path.

Of course, this debate proves the very point I made at the start so it's all good fun.

I agree. There are plenty of things that I don't like, but I recognise that many others do enjoy. Similarly I'm sure that are things that I like that others can't stand.

I'd happily give Dave a kick up the backside. I've seen Simon Cowell in the reasonably priced car (TopGear) now a thousand times.

Doctors on BBC1 is just the same people going into the practice every day with live-threatening illnesses. I'd rather watch a program on 5 about potholes... Oh wait...

I'd scrap all of them emergency services rubbish, I don't really want to be filmed if I've banged my head off a concrete block then have my recovery filmed and then be interviewed on how I banged my head and some other meaningless drivel.

The Metro and Evening Standard for me. Vapid yuppie nonsense preening about this fictional portrayal of London that only exists in the writer's head. It's like Sex in the City's view on New York life, except without the justification of self-admitted fantasy fiction.

On the bright side, it does mean whenever I travel by train I bring my own books in case I feel the urge to read a discarded copy of the Evening Standard and feel worse off from it.

If I ever tried to read it at lunch time, it wasn't long before it ended up in the bin.

I'm probably gonna be putting my neck on the line a bit here, but I'm gonna nominate The Simpsons.

Not so much a case of 'I don't like it' as a whole, more of a case of 'I don't like what it's become' (if that makes any sense): Stale, well past it's sell by date and overfilled with celebrity cameos. It used to be one of the best TV shows (live action or animated) of all time. The 1st 9 seasons of The Simpsons are among the greatest television programming of the last 35 years. Witty, fresh, relevant and it used celebs sparingly and to good effect. The current iteration is essentially a watered down version of Family Guy (that disaster of a show is another story for another time).

The sooner Fox does the decent thing and cancels it, the better. Sadly, I can't see that happening anytime soon....

Personally my favourite cartoon (other than Star Trek TAS) was Futurama, I am gutted it was cancelled again last year.
I always find it hard to find decent stuff to watch on TV, more shows like Star Trek Enterprise, Last of Summer Wine, Heartbeat, One Foot in the Grave, for example are some I watch which are repeats of canceled shows. But there's still better thsn new ones.

I'm a big fan of The Simpsons. I have the first 8 seasons on DVD. These are some of the funniest and heartwarming shows you could watch.

But now it's a shadow of its former self. What have Mike Scully and Al Jean accomplished by ruining all the main characters?

-Homer is idiotic, selfish and mean, with none of his old heart
-Bart is pathetic, cheeky and idiotic too, with none of his former cunning
-Marge is an annoying, passive-aggressive wet blanket
-Lisa's incredibly self-righteous and nitpicking
-Mr Burns lacks all his former menace, becoming just an outlet for age jokes
-Grampa has no sophistication (see Old Money, Raging Abe Simpson for this)
-There are no subtle jokes anymore. Everything is overdone
-No more heart

The Simpsons still has a couple of good episodes every season. But with Harry Shearer gone, it's going to be hard to continue. And the show doesn't deserve to go on.

So they should, IMO, get Harry Shearer back, and spend the next season producing five great, last episodes to finish up on. There's got to be something classic left in there somewhere.

I agree with this post massively. Words cannot possibly describe how amazing those first 8 series were. Possibly the best comedy show of all time, and certainly the best animated one.

But, if it has to go on, then only until it beats Gunsmoke's record, or it reaches Season 30. Or even Season 31. That would mean Treehouse of Horror XXX, which would be amazing.

Father Ted's a good example, because, even before the tragic death of Dermot Morgan, they were going to end the show after the third series. To this day it remains one of the most consistently funny TV shows of all time.

Words cannot possibly describe how amazing those first 8 series were. Possibly the best comedy show of all time, and certainly the best animated one.

For me, the absolute peak of The Simpsons' 'Golden Era' is Season 4 (September 1992 - May 1993). The writing, animation & voice acting are all simply impeccable here.

Far too many classics to mention from this season alone: Last Exit to Springfield, Marge vs. The Monorail, Homer's Triple Bypass & Duffless to name but a few...
