I understand the Paddington - West Ealing - Greenford DMU (2tph) service is due to be withdrawn in advance of Crossrail opening, with West Ealing - Greenford operating as a DMU and Paddington - West Ealing operating as a class 387 EMU, extended to terminate further down the line.

On the URL below, the start date is thought to be December 2016 or May 2017. Does anyone know of an authoritative source for the start date?

In addition, is any information known on the stopping pattern? I understand this service will terminate at Hayes and Harlington. Currently the other EMU service on this line (Heathrow Connect) stops at Hanwell and Southall after West Ealing. With Hanwell's service due to increase to 4tph (peak & offpeak) under Crossrail I'm interested to know if this increase will occur earlier with this service.

Thanks in advance for any information.

I cannot see there being a specific Paddington - West Ealing EMU service but rather Reading/ Heathrow Connect services additionally calling at West Ealing.

As to when this may occur who knows as progress with the electrification work on the GWML is abysmal and shows all the signs of a project that is off the rails - pun intended. The line from east of Twyford to Heathrow Jct has sections where no OHLE mast bases have even been installed and many miles of unfinished masts with many gaps and not one completed gantry span when I last travelled!

The plan is May 2016 for the Greenford branch services to be cut back to West Ealing and replaced on the main line by a Padd-Hayes. The Padd-Hayes will initially be a 4 car 387, though it will eventually become a pair. See http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/-/media/pdf/aboutus/ourbusiness/stakeholders report/nfgwf.pdf

Less than a year away I cannot see the OHLE etc being ready in time unless Mark Carne as got an Olympic sprint left over from his last job! The EMU cascade plan needs to work too a lot to do so that along with poorly performing Network Rail management which not good!

Yes, most platforms cannot fit a pair of 387s. They do have SDO and 7 cars fit in most through platforms, but I wonder if the bay at H&H is not long enough for a pair of 387 units? P13/14 at Paddington would be tight too but they're currently not electrified.

I hope the 2tph that don't call at Southall start doing so too, although this 2tph will be welcome and will go a long way in sorting out the issue of two trains in 7 minutes then nothing for 23 :|

Thanks for the link - very useful. It's interesting the say "We want to run our first electric (EMU) services between Paddington and Hayes in Spring 2016" rather than "we will"!

There's no indication of the calling pattern there - does anyone know of any documents which do give an indication?

The Greenford shuttle which will be replaced by this service almost always starts at P12 in Paddington. The other service which almost always uses this platform is the Heathrow Connect, so it's electrified and long enough for 5 car class 360.

On the topic of West Ealing / Hanwell, I understand that both stations will receive a Sunday service once Crossrail starts. Given these stations don't have platforms on the main lines (only on the reliefs) does this mean the practice of 2-track running on Sundays will finish on this section of the line?

Or more likely replacement bus services for any passengers wanting Acton Relief Line/West Ealing/Hanwell for the Sundays where the relief lines are under procession

Or even just passing tickets on local bus routes, where there is a suitable one, as seems to happen on occasion on the Underground. I know Hanwell has a local bus as I used it once when a train was cancelled, I'm not sure about West Ealing or Acton.
