WAFV Vigilance and ATAVT Perception Tests

For me in stage 2 the hardest part was the 2 hand co ordination test. Although I knew beforehand the tests that we were going to undertake. I didn't realize that all three tests would be completed within effectively an hour. By the time I got to the 2 hand test I already had a strange sore arm from the WAFV test. After nervously hovering above the computer button waiting for the grey box to change colour!! It felt like I had a dead arm. Although maybe that speaks more about my own fitness levels....

Thanks for the replies, it's interesting how different people find different parts of the tests harder, just goes to show that everyone has different skills and abilities.

On the 2hand coordination test, is it right that if you were to let go of the joysticks the cursor would return to the middle of the screen, in other words there always has to be some degree of input on each one?

From what I can remember you have to use both at all times yes, personally I found it very easy. Just don't go at it too fast or too slow, they are measuring accuracy but also speed so it's important to get the fine balance to keep control but at the same time keep it moving steadily

I read on this forum that as well as measuring over-all accuracy and speed of the exercise it also measures how quickly you react to mistakes, ie the ball going out of the lines.

I was wondering if anyone could clarify if there are only two shades of square during the WAFV test. Light grey and black. The practice material I have states it occasionally gets darker and that's when I should hit the button, however I've seen some posts on here that you should only hit the button when it goes black.
I've got my second assessment on Thursday and I'm a bit nervous about the whole thing

Don't worry yourself, it will be obviously darker when you see it. The practice run clears it up for you. When it changes, theres no fade to dark, it just changes, and you hit the green button ASAP.

One last question about the ATAVT test.

Are the pictures similar to those on the youtube clip or are they pictures of UK roads?

Does it matter? I thought the practice booklet with the kitchens was the most realistic of all the material even though the items were obviously completely different

Hi Chrissyfog,

I'm assuming you're going to London for your assessments which will be carried out by the OPC?

Don't be like me and think you'll be done by lunch time, you complete the assessments in stages and then they mark each stage and let you know how you got on. If successful you stay for the next until you've completed all of them.

On our assessment we were there until about 6pm. Most of the day is spent waiting which is a pain but it's all for a good cause.

Hi Hoody, my assessment is in Swindon. I was just wondering how long as I have booked the day off work. I wasn't sure if I would be able to go back to work after, but as it looks like it will be an all day thing, I wont bother. Thank you for the reply

Guys, how many people attended these second stage assessments? There were 28 at my first stage, more than half of whom didn't make the end of the day.

Is it a similar number of applicants at this point or is it watered down a bit?

Hiya, its not for a Driver postion. It is for a Train Movement Controller position. I've read the job discription but any more info on the role would be great.
