Very interesting, but, looking at the before and after track layouts on p19, I see two up and one down loops are shown immediately to the north/west of New Cross Gate - I may be wrong but I thought there was/is only one up loop and no down loop there. Also, some of the Bermondsey fly-under illustrations have different layouts to others of the same site.

Yes - the old P9 (12car) was in the way so they could only do very limited work on the last 2 cars worth of platform before Christmas.
Currently has 10 cars usable length, will be 12 when finished. (still an improvement over the old P8 which was only 8 car which it effectively replaced giving a bit more flexibility in platforming or allowing certain services to be 10 car instead of 8 in the interim.)
The end of the P10 is relatively narrow and the retaining wall (between P10 and the track for the new high level P9 the other side of the wall) still needs some work so it will probably be in use when some of the hoarding gets removed and the canopy is more complete.

Going back to the P1/2 platform buildings which at present are not exactly helping the overcrowding. Does anyone know why they were not demolished over Christmas/New Year as I doubt it would have taken long. Were there issues with ending the leases of the concessions located there? Just curious as in a major project like this where every stage is meticulously planned keeping these unnecessary buildings does seem odd.
It think they considered it as a option but the facilities were relatively popular and there have been passenger complaints over closure.
The demolition seems to align with other closures at London Bridge, besides plenty of internal removal of services needed before the walls come down.
They hold the roof up, and contain lots of the power equipment for that side of the station, so it was thought that it wasn't worth bothering for the limited benefit.
What is happening weekend after next is demolition of the side walls only, which will provide some more circulation space.

If the buildings are part of the roof structure then that explains it.

They might be constrained for time by weekend only access (for heavy work) I expect. They probably won't be craning prefabricated platform sections into position alongside the P10 running line during the 'working week'. Possibly also to do with practicalities because the worksite shape almost tapers away to nothing where the back of P10 nears the route of the future P9 line.

P1/2 building demolition is due to be done during the Easter blockade apparently.
Yes near the (current) country end of the platform. It just struck me as really odd looking this morning.

Yes. Several signalling failures this morning between New Cross and London Bridge area. All unrelated. All fixed.

Absolutely - a sign of the evil spirit that grips the London Bridge approaches at present!
Strange? Unprecedented! No one can remember anything like it. The poor guys in the response teams have been chasing their tails since the wee small hours.
Noticed a couple of concourse upgrades today, pigeon spikes above the barriers (crazy they weren't installed originally) and plants! I must admit the plants, few that there are, really give the austere and barren concourse much needed relief, along with the information desk that has been provided the last couple of weeks.

The plants are probably a psychological way of calming people in stressful situation that London Bridge is.

Introducing small visual and physical distractions such as plants, columns and other obstacles can also help prevent solid blocks of overcrowding forming, and create a more pleasant environment for the dispersal of large numbers of people. (Look at the positioning of columns, desks and so on in a well-designed concert hall foyer, for example, or the way crowds disperse after the barriers in a decent Tube ticket hall).

For info, there might well be disruption tonight as the BML is operating over the Down Reversible line only at Balcombe Tunnel Junction in reaction to a points failure. It is likely to be at least 1530 before this is fixed. Formal service recovery and bus replacements are being put in place. Trains may need to divert via Horsham.
EDIT: Southern tickets are now OK on Thameslink in the area (if running), FGW Redhill-Guildford, Southeastern Hastings-Charing X, Tube on reasonable routes, and SWT on reasonable routes.
