What about 66999?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but all BR locomotives are coded with class and then a three-figure number, right? Like 66-064.

Surely this means only 999 locomotives can be produced in this code configuration. There are over 500 Class 66's, so what if they want to produce upwards of 999 locos? What happens?

Thanks,
Hakzi.

Subdivide a class?????????

With the advent of project genesis, we may be reaching the peak of class66's. Also as older units are removed from service, AIUI the numbers can be reused.

They have a fair few, but IIRC only 2 are currently operational.

Technically there are 1000 posibilities but no-one has used 000 since 43000

There are also to many needless sub classes and differences between locos in those subclasses. Back in BR days a 47/4 would be a 47/4 regardless who was using it because all of them were the same within the subclass but differed from other 47s.

Now we have two different designs of 66 within the 66/4 subclass!
