Believe people who always believe TOcs are always right and people who believe passengers are alwas right are both wrong.

Apologists is a strong and emotive word. All I want is a service in line with the money I pay for it.

GA Operational staff are generally superb.

NR have done an excellent job cutting back the volume of signal and points problems/

I would like to see the operational staff getting backing from their senior management.

I'm glad you agree, on the ground Staff who according to you "usually have no clue what problems are and how to deal with them" are superb, never really had any problems with Abellio Greater Anglia staff at all... it would appear that the only gripe you have not contradicted yourself on is the 'pathetic information' available at Norwich, which as I and over posters have pointed out, isn't really the case. Perhaps if you have any suggestions, such as asking if they're able to do something about the PA being audible at the A end of the platforms and on Platform 6, you would like to write to them and ask if anything can be done?

Thanks for comments.

Contacted GA on audio levels yesterday and informing their staff better.

Cant see the contridiction in complementing staff and criticising management, but, as a teacher could set a question on it.

Yes the pa system is not very loud on platform 6 especially as you say with several DMUs in the background.

Poor audible quality at Norwich is not a new issue. The PA system was just the same when I was train announcing here in the 90s. Nothing has improved apart from the screens on platform 6 now work. We went for years with it displaying nothing. Progress indeed.

This is of course NFN, Normal For Norfolk ;)

You do seem to go through some sort of time warp in Ipswich Tunnel, and long may it continue. One of the pleasures of deepest East Anglia is the slower pace of life. Norwich in 90 minutes in 90 years time will suit me fine :)

New policy for 2015. On arrival at Ipswich passengers will change onto a Mk1 set hauled by a Britannia. Or a B12 on teaks at the weekend.

Norwich in 90, I would have thought almost impossible, and certainly not really needed !

Was done in 94min last week with a half decent run. Needs lots of infrastructure work to make it a regular reliable option.

Ipswich only departing Liv St at 14:41 with a clear run following disruption. My personal best is 53min from Ipswich-Liv St so in a perfect world & empty 110mph GEML 90 is an easy option every day. That is not going to happen though. Don't think the long term plan is for an all day service operating in this time, just a few each way.

East Anglian is currently timed for 104mins UP road & 102 DN.

I'd have thought an 0700 from NRW arriving LST 0830 would be a winner. Similarly, a 1730 arriving 1900 in the other direction?

Are the 170s to be repainted anytime soon

Shocking how long the obsolete anglia livery has lasted

Would be a winner but no chance of a path at those times.

So, in reality, no realistic prospects of L-N in 90, well not that would help any passengers !

Agree that Norwich has a charm of its own.

It needs better than 70s stock and 80s locos though...

Although certain people on Twitter seem to believe that a brand new fleet would instantly make GEML perfect that does not make it so. I would happily challenge anyone to look on CCF during the peak and show how brand new trains would make a difference. The line is extremely congested especially during the peaks. A new fleet of trains wouldn't change this. And again if the hauled sets are got rid of there is no reason for the replacements to be intercity trains. Journey time isn't long enough.

CCF
Control Centre of the Future: computerised enhancements to the facilities available in control rooms. It observes movements of trains during normal operations and possessions by providing visual schematics of the data from TOPS.

Basically view live train movements and other data with the ability to recall (or replay) data at a later point.

Why is the plain white national express blue doors coach in one of the hauled sets so terribly dirty compared to the others?

Possibly due to it being wallpaper rather than paint. Gets ingrained & wash doesn't remove very well. Needs a hand job but that's unlikely before its refurb.

On a different line, how long has 3179013 been back in general service (batteries removed)? Used it this morning, it looked cleaner than the units it was sandwiched between and very odd without any logos on the side. It was also the wrong way round (1st at the country end).

...

No, too easy.

Probs would mean removing it from the set as that sort of cleaning would not be permitted in the shed whilst fitters are working below, as well as so little time overnight when & if in the shed. There has been enough short formed sets until the arrival of NC64 so wouldn't want to risk that. I must completely agree though, it does look absolutley awful as did some of the locos still in NXEA livery. These however are easier to remove & recieve bodyside attention.
