Apologies if this is a bit of a tangent thread, but there seems to be a sizeable blockade of the South West Main Line this weekend, with blocks running from Surbiton down through to Andover on the West of England Line, and to Winchester on the South West MainLine.

Services will be diverted via Guildford, extending journey times by approximately 60 minutes and not calling at Basingstoke, Winchester or Southampton Airport Parkway.
Buses will run between Reading and Winchester, calling at Basingstoke.
South West Trains
Services between London Waterloo and Portsmouth Harbour will be diverted and will not call at Woking. They will call additionally at Surbiton.
Services between London Waterloo and Basingstoke will not run.
Services between London Waterloo and Guildford (via Woking) will run between London Waterloo and Weybridge only.
Services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids will run between Andover and Exeter St Davids only.
Services between London Waterloo and Weymouth will be diverted and will not call at Woking, Basingstoke, Winchester or Southampton Airport Parkway. They will depart from London Waterloo and Clapham Junction earlier than usual.
Services between London Waterloo and Woking (via Hounslow) will be diverted to start / terminate at Weybridge.
Services between London Waterloo and Poole will run between Winchester and Poole only.
Services between Woking and Alton will not run.
22:15 London Waterloo to Salisbury will run between Andover and Honiton.
23:35 London Waterloo to Salisbury will not run.
Additional trains will run between Winchester and Southampton Central.
Additional trains will run between Alton and Guildford.
Buses will run between Guildford and Basingstoke / Woking / Winchester / Weybridge, between Basingstoke and Weybridge / Winchester and also between Woking and Winchester.

That seems to be quite a big gap, especially if you were thinking of travelling Salisbury > Waterloo, and having to join a replacement bus at Andover all the way to Guildford to pick up the diverted London services .. :cry:

Any idea on the scale of work that needs to be completed, and the size of the replacement bus fleet needed to cover all those routes/volume of passengers? - Will there be any service buses left in the South of England??!! lol

Similar block was on last Sunday. The block was scaled back to Farnborough-Weybridge from mid-Afternoon though.

That seems to be quite a big gap, especially if you were thinking of travelling Salisbury > Waterloo, and having to join a replacement bus at Andover all the way to Guildford to pick up the diverted London services .. :cry:

Any idea on the scale of work that needs to be completed, and the size of the replacement bus fleet needed to cover all those routes/volume of passengers? - Will there be any service buses left in the South of England??!! lol

Worst is that, according to SWT Twitter, due to events the buses can't even serve Fleet or Weybridge!

What events are these?

Looking at National Rail Enquiries, a journey from Salisbury to Waterloo is 2 hours 54 minutes on the Sunday. On the Saturday it's 1 hour 28 minutes or 1 hour 32 minutes. So only just under double the journey time.

It said marathon in Fleet but not sure about Weybridge.

Last night they were advising passengers, via a pre recorded announcement at Woking, to travel to other stations if travelling from Fleet. Didn't hear anything about Weybridge and I was at the station for 16 minutes, due to disruption at Wimbledon, so plenty of time to have heard an announcement.

I don't know how easy it is to get from Fleet to other stations during the half marathon.

It's not easy to get to the other stations but hey, hwy would they care! Trains are still terminating at Weybridge but the buses will run too and from Walton on Thames. To be fair Stagecoach have updated their replacement bus timetables.

Is it just me or are there suddenly more and more last minute changes to engineering? Next weeks has also changed first thing with trains diverting via Guidlford from Woking to Surbiton.

Blocks do seem to get extended at quite short notice. There was a block Guildford-Petersfield overnight last week. The first 2 nights it overran by a couple of hours so the morning before the 3rd night the block was extended to start an hour or so earlier.
