Good morning,

On seeing a thread here about the Flying Scotsman Steam loco 4472, I was wondering how progress was going on some other preserved/new build rolling stock & locos.

The Brighton Belle Electric unit, how is the restoration on that project going? I used to get email newsletters, but they have stopped coming through.

Lord Nelson 850 steam loco, that was bought back onto the main line a few years ago, but I haven't seen that one about for a while, is it just running on a preserved line?. I think it may have had a boiler problem at one stage?

Is King Edward 1, still running on the main line? and I did hear talk of another King Edward loco coming back, King Edward 11?

Are the makers of Tornado, still planning to build another steam loco from scratch?

Tks.

Not sure about your first few questions but I can answer the last - Tornado's owners, the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust are pressing ahead with construction of a new P2 class steam loco, under the name of the P2 Steam Locomotive Company (P2SLC). It's making very good progress although the return of Tornado to the Darlington stable for overhaul has meant that things have slowed down. Nonetheless, it's on track and is an exciting project.

See http://www.p2steam.com/ or their facebook page for info!

I think King Edward I is currently being overhauled. 6023 King Edward I has been restored at Didcot. It's already worked on some preserved lines and is provisionally booked in for some mail line action later in the year.

Lord Nelson is running on the watercress line as part of their regular fleet. It's running every weekend this month if you want to go and see it.

Lord Nelson was a mainline engine making guest appearances every so often but based at the Mid Hants. You were correct that she had some boiler issues but they were able to resolve them but the NRM decided it was best not to subject the boiler to the higher pressures that mainline running would put on it and make it a heritage only loco which would put less stress on the boiler.
