I don't think so. Some journeys can only be made by 'splitting'.

I will be doing this journey on Easter Saturday due to the closure of the West Coast Main Line.

A London Terminals to Birmingham ticket is not valid via this route.

This may be a silly question, but why not do Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street direct? Or, if you want a chance of a seat reservation, Paddington to Reading and then change onto CrossCountry to New Street?

I think it's rather common that a combination of tickets would be required for circuitous journeys that aren't permitted by the Routeing Guide.

Hmm people are missing the whole point of the thread - its not about VIA routes or anything like that its about journeys that can ONLY be made by splitting tickets - point to point not via some obscure chord that only operates twice a year on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of November.

I'ved moved this from Trivia: Journeys that can only be made by using a combination of tickets? because, as others have said, this deviation is totally unnecessary and a very poor example and missing the point of that thread.

Fun it may be, but that thread isn't going to be de-railed with this example.

I agree with CyrusWuff - go on Chiltern (the line will be open by then), you may even get one of their silver trains!
