It may be scheduled as an HST but a voyager isn't uncommon (unfortunately).

Routed as an HST?

Booked as an HST more like it, but turned up as a voyager would be a more appropriate statement.

Presumably not a HST due to no trains between Taunton and Bristol this weekend. Otherwise it would be stuck South for the weekend.

These are timing loads and should not be taken as gospel for the allocation of rolling stock. It just means that the trains allocated to these journeys should be able to stick to HST times.

Voyagers allocated to journeys on HST timings will easily keep to time.

There have been plenty of discussions on this issue, for example, here, here, and here.

Due to a Taunton Block this weekend, the HST which 1V64 stables at Laira can't make it back north, so in this case 1V64 would be a voyager. In today's case, it was a double 220

In addition, stock will be out of place due to the Harbury landslip, though that's somewhat less of a problem for XC than for Chiltern.

Anywhere B link goes
I must admit I was expecting something along the lines of a Manchester train being routed towards Crewe at Norton Bridge or something along those lines. Was almost prepared for the old "The driver was lost and didn't know the way" chestnut

Same here. Or wrongly routed at New Street to go towards Cheltenham instead of Woverhampton delaying passengers.

.

Just looking at that RTT link shows this. Its arrived between 1 & 3 early at several stations down south, and 5 early at Plymouth, despite being 10 late further north (presumably due to "traffic"). I assume the early arrivals meant longer dwell times.

Might be booked, but chances of it actually been HST are 50-50. Think all the times i've covered it on a friday its been Voyagers.

Won't be a HST for the next few weeks, as already pointed out, it will not be able to come back North until the Monday morning due to the Cogload Junction Blockade, and XC have 4 HST diagrams on a Monday

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but what are the typical weekday XC HST diagrams?

Apologies for the off-topic nature of this post: Am I correct in thinking that XC services can arrive/depart from/to either direction at New Street?

Services to Bristol can go either way (west via University or east via St Andrews), services to Manchester could theoretically go either west via the Arena Tunnels [WCML] or east via Aston thence WCML or Bescot, however I'm not sure if any are booked to do the latter pair. Services to Derby and Leamington can only leave one way however.

Derby services can run as normal east via Proof House Jn or west via University and Lifford Chord.

Leamington services can run normally (east) via Adderley Park or west via Soho East Jn, Perry Barr and Aston, both if running via Coventry.

XC Train via Aston for you not that it always goes this way

Monday to Friday dagrams to remain as they are until around June subject to Engineering Works.

Can confirm that both the 6:32 York - Plymouth and the Dundee - Plymouth were HSTs today, so yes, seems to be the case.

Yay! ;)

Thanks for this. The XC HST refurbishment is the best I have seen recently.

I'd agree - I'd have said that it's better than the Chiltern one, or at least in terms of layout. Not everybody wants to sit a table, the XC ones get the balance right.

My bold

Given that Chiltern do not operate, and never have, HSTs I assume the comparison is with Chilterns Mk3 LHCS. If so I am afraid I must seriously beg to differ. Not only do I prefer the seating layout (although not the actual seats!) on Chiltern but also the power doors!

Sorry, I thought it was clear in my post that I was just talking about Mark 3s in general. The power doors are good, only thing for me is that the sliding vestibule door has been put right at the end of the coach, over the connection and so there isn't a vestibule to speak of at all!

As I said, I personally like tables, but I appreciate that it's certainly not for all and so the XC layout, with 6 (?) tables a coach is a fair trade-off in my view.

The latter pair are used as a diversionary route. I was recently on a Manchester train that did this when a Rugeley train broke down in front of it blocking a platform at New Street

Indeed, I did Birmingham to Wolves via Soho and Bescot back in September on a XC Voyager when there were problems at Sandwell & Dudley.

Surely services towards Derby can go out towards the Lifford Curve and then via Camp Hill direct to Landor Street Junction - Fairly certain its cleared for passenger use, and XC have services that way ECS. (Although it might be one of those lines that does not need to be specifically traveled over to maintain route knowledge - mentioned in the Cross Country train diversions 21st February thread regarding the Laverstock Curve near Salisbury).

They indeed can, as someone above pointed out. The Lifford Curve never occurred to me.
