OO gauge Class 175, 180 & 185

Very much exactly that I'm afraid, as you'll have quite a job on your hands with the different and unique window sizes and positions let alone with the underframe detail.

At the moment I am not aware of any manufacturer producing any of the above units - I certainly wouldn't mind an FGW Aida, but Bachmann will be announcing their 2015 range on March the 2nd while both Realtrack Models and Rapido both have unannounced DMU Projects in the pipeline - so the overall result is not yet, but who knows?

Good point, but then again there's nowt so queer as model manufacturers. Heljan especially seem to have chased the obscure prototypes recently, with Falcon, Lion, Kestrel, the 15, 16, 23 and the various railbuses.

Isn't there something like 51 class 185 units?. When you consider that the class 70 has far fewer and yet Bachmann has a whole host for the collector to chose from!, limited editions, weathered, sound fitted and just plain old ordinary to choose from.

It's a similar kind of story for hornby class 67, so why not do a 185 unit. Quite like on the mainline, so I think I may be tempted!.

As for the class 450, I believe at one time the magazine model rail were taking pre orders from people to try and gauge a response to see if it was worth doing a limited edition. Nothing has come of this but I think when you consider the amount they would probably charge customers for a 4-car limited edition, it will probably put most people off

Personally I'd put some SWT stickers on LM 350 (can get them from eBay) and although there are few minor issues with the different classes I'd be happy enough!, I guess it depends how "hard core" you are about modelling vs the cost!.

Bachmann said for years that EMUs wouldn't sell, so instead of taking the route with most potential, they choose to prove EMUs don't sell. Bachmann have no interest in producing any more or any 450s (which are basically the same) and whilst interest was shown for a commission the costs were prohibitive without Bachmann bringing the 350 back into production.

67s retail around £130, 70s probably about the same, when you consider the box shifters that price probably goes to about £100. The 350s have an RRP of around £180 are still on sale at some retailers for £150, the 3 car 108s have an RRP of around £170 (but can be found for £130). Add to that the area the diesel locos cover and the area the 185s cover.....

Maybe Hornby could produce a 444 or 450 instead, with one of their new sound decoders

Not likely. If Bachmann can't see value in the 450 (when they basically have the toolings there to use right now) I doubt Hornby will want to make one. The 444 is too different from anything else, not exactly iconic, and fairly limited in operating area.

Haven't seen the full announcement yet but on Bachmann's website they have announced a OO 450 as part of the range.
