Due to engineering work taking place around the Teesside on Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th May. Transpennine services are terminating and starting at Eaglescliffe instead of Middlesbrough.
This means for 2 days only you can travel from Eaglescliffe to Yarm on an hourly direct service. Just don't ask for a ticket as a fare doesn't excist! :)

It's only on the Sunday that TPE are terminating at Eaglescliffe, they're running normally on the Sat according to NRE. Northern Saltburns are disrupted both days.

Why do TPEX not call at Eaglescliffe?

They are supposed to be an express service only calling at main stations, with northern usually doing the stopping services.

Eaglescliffe is served by regular Northern services so TPE don't need to. It just means passengers need to change at Thornaby or go via Darlington for longer distance journeys.

TPE do need to serve Yarm as Northern don't go that far.

That is the million dollar question. We would like to see a 2 hourly service to complement other services at Eaglescliffe. There is huge support for this throughout the local area.
If TPEX did call at Eaglescliffe every 2 hours say and every other hour at Yarm they could at least put 6 car trains on which are desperately needed on Saturdays and during all school holidays.

Popped along to Yarm station on Tuesday an witnessed cars parked all over the shop. Yarm car park holds 30 cars max.
A few not in official bays and most parked on the grass verges along the main road outside the station. Eaglescliffe will have 80 car parking spaces from Mid-April so could also help out in this respect.
Another question is how much revenue is TPEX losing from customers unable to pay between Yarm & York due to the conductor not being able to get round?

We keep our fingers crossed for the next Franchise holders to propose stopping more TPEX services at Eaglescliffe.

Network rail haven't updated journey planner yet. I have had confirmation from TP that they will be terminating at Eaglescliffe all day Saturday. Like I say they are waiting on Network Rail to update journey planners so its a bit off putting that you can purchase advance tickets believing that its a train all the way through and then turning up on the day to find its a bus to Eaglescliffe.

We will experience the fun that is York Saturday drinking trains! :)
