When I was a reasonably regular user of the route in 2009-2010, a significant proportion of peak hour Jubilee trains turned back at North Greenwich - I think the 7-car project may have ended that by providing some extra complete trains too. Now the Dome is a major venue the third platform probably comes in handy for end-of-event extras. For those that don't know, the provision for a future southeastward branch can be seen from a train arriving/departing the east end of North Greenwich.
It's typically 4tph during daytime off peak that terminates at North Greenwich, and 4-6tph during peaks.

7 cars were a Christmas 2005 present! :D That also provided 4 more sets. It is the new TBTC signalling that has provided more capacity. The line should have had ATO signalling on the opening of the extension but ran into loads of issues.

Crikey, was it really that long ago?

I recently changed from the Circle to Bakerloo at Baker Street and that seemed really long-winded.

Up the stairs from one Circle platform, over the Circle itself, back down onto the opposite Circle platform, along that platform, along a tunnel and up some stairs to the Met platforms, along that platform, down some stairs into the ticket hall, then down an escalator to the Bakerloo. And that was following signs!! Surely there's a quicker way?

Try Great Portland Street - same platform change (or at worst a bridge if you're changing directions).

It's slow, but I'm sure you have ended up taking an extra staircase somewhere that I can't work out!
Seriously, a direct link from the Circle Line platforms to the downstairs concourse would be lovely, but that's historic listed architecture for you :D

Change to a Met service at any station before Baker Street ( including great Portland Street ). Middle of the train will put you exactly by the stairs leading down to the Bakerloo and Jubilee; straight down those and the escalators are a very short distance ahead of you.

How about Bakerloo to District at Embankment?

Off the bakerloo, along a long corridor, then a 180 degree turn back on yourself to go up the stairs, then a badly signposted set of stairs up to the platform! We got thoroughly lost.

I did the interchange from Southbound Bakerloo a couple of hours ago; don't recall a long corridor? Up the stairs from the platform, immediately left onto the escalator and then a few paces in that circulating area, steps take you straight to the platforms.

If this is the westbound, then signs lead you to a passage that just goes over the Circle Line and ends up on the opposite platform. This is because the staircase at the other end to the ticket hall is narrow, while the eastbound platform has a level access to the northbound Metropolitan.

This is the first passage mentioned:

And then sounds like he used the Metropolitan Line footbridge, although I don't recall the status of signs there:

There is no need to go up any stairs once you have crossed the footbridge onto the Eastbound/Outer Rail C&H line platform. You just go along the Met platform, down the stairs then down one of the escalators.

To be fair, once we'd gone up and over the Circle lines we were presented by some closed gates, hence we were diverted onto the Eastbound platforms. That could be the 'extra stair case' you were referring to.

At least LU is very well signed, we used the Barcelona system last year and that was horrendous for self-navigating through stations!

As above, it seems that option was closed off on this occasion.

Sounds like you went along the corridor towards the Northern line (what you call the long corridor)...

To quote Mr Punch..."That's the way to do it"...

Ah, just a minute... was this in the evening peak by any chance?

I have known them to make the Bakerloo / Metropolitan staircases one way at the busiest times, with the nortbound platform staircase being for "going upstairs" only and the southbound for "going downstairs" only; when this is in force passengers are sent via the north end footbridge in order to get down to the Bakerloo / Jubilee.

But we came of the Northbound Bakerloo.

What about from the H&C to the Bakerloo at Paddington? It's quite a long walk!

That's not in one station, though!

Waterloo and City at Bank to District Line eastbound at Monument, perhaps? Or to the DLR if the District at Monument doesn't count.
Waterloo Jubilee to anything else is of similar length, though since there are travelators, not so long of a walk.

King's Cross St Pancras Victoria Line to Northern Line, now the secret passage is closed off. There's still one by the Piccadilly Line, though. Plus you can use the lift from the ticket hall.

Green Park Piccadilly to anything.
Charing Cross Bakerloo to Northern is famously long. (they were two different stations).
Warren Street and Euston (CHX branch to anywhere else) are deceptively far, Notting Hill Gate (Central to Circle) can be further than you think if you don't know the secret shortcut, so can Leicester Square (Picc to Northern). As, so it seems, can Baker Street Circle westbound to Bakerloo/Jubilee.

At the moment though, reaching the Central line platforms from the Northern line platforms at TCR is the most awkward one - it requires three trains! Well, two if you go up to High Barnet and wait for it to go back down the Bank branch.

'tis as far as my question that started this thread is concerned! They're both called "Paddington" and are even connected on the tube map (as opposed to, say, Edgware Road, where two identically-named stations are not connected.)

Is it possible to reach the Central line platforms at all at the moment? (As in "standing on on them, stationary", and as opposed to driving past them without stopping.)
