Garforth station service provision to be cut?

Just a quick one about one of my local stations. The Labour Parliamentary candidate in the area has apparently been campaigning hard against proposals to cut the number of services calling at Garforth, but I've not seen any information about this elsewhere. I wonder if anybody here might be a little more well informed than I?

What is he/she alleging? To the best of my knowledge, the intention is to maintain the current off-peak frequency of 2 tph at Cross Gates, East Garforth and Micklefield and 3 tph at Garforth for the foreseeable future, with the current level of peak-hour additionals. The next major timetable rewrite is due when Ordsall Lane Chord opens, but as I understand it, the plan is to maintain the existing level of service at Garforth etc.

i think that the candidate is most proberbly scaremongering to get votes, ive not heard of any plans to reduce the service level.however, outside of peak times, (not including saturday) the passenger numbers from garforth are pretty low- so it would not come as a complete suprize if TPE withdrew the garforth stop (off peak mon-fri) to speed up their services. the average on/off at garforth for TPE off peak is around 4 passengers per train.

We have had similar with our Labour candidate in my area. I have already taken them to task on it as to what the proposals are and have finally had a 'well we have heard this...' response as they have no substance. No chance of them getting a vote from me. Plenty of fact based stuff they could be campaigning on.

The DfT Northern/TPE consultation for the new franchises sought views on cutting the off-peak TPE call at Garforth and reducing the calls at Stalybridge to 1tph. Peak calls would be retained.

It would be likely to replace the existing Micklefield station, and would either be on the same site or fairly close by. Metro does seem to have gone quiet on the project though, presumably they're concentrating on the three stations that are actually green-lit (Kirkstall Forge, Apperley Bridge and Low Moor).
