New infrastructure at Northam jnc?

Just before Northam junction from southampton Central towards St Denys there is something that looks new with a black bag over it but doesn't appear to be a signal, can anyone tell me what it is?

Also unrelated but around southampton there is a lot of yellow boxes on sticks that look like gatso cameraa but I'm sure they're not! Any idea?

It's an LED banner repeater for the up direction signal adjacent to the road bridge, yet to come into use.

Can't think what you mean by yellow boxes on sticks, can you be more specific in the location? Are they low down next to the track, or another possibility is the security cameras in some of the electrical supply points or signalling REB compounds - the latter being well above head height?

Those yellow boxes (known as "mushrooms" or "EAK units") are part of an axle counter system but they aren't evaluators. The evaluators are housed inside buildings, not in little boxes at the lineside.

Cheers for the reply RE the banner repeater. I' only recall seeing the yellow boxes in a compound next to St Denys station where the netley line joins, there was also some around entrances to the freightliner terminals.

Are these boxes very near Mount Pleasant level crossing?

There may be but I don't recall seeing any there, the ones I know for certain about are between horseshoe bridge and St Denys station.

Most of the substations and tp huts have what look like gatso cameras to try to prevent theft etc on swml
