the last remaining 80 class in service on NIR is used for the Sandite train during the low adhesion season. however the last I saw it, she didn't sound too healthy. Cars 69 and 94 power the vehicle whilst 90's engine blew up a couple of years ago and is now dead. the last of the thumpers, I loved these trains and wish they remained in passenger service. the 450 class was also taken out of service but number 458 is being preserved at Downpatrick railway and sees use :)
video to come shortly but here is a picture of it in the Down Platform of Portadown Railway station.

i love that sound.

as for the 450 class, you could say they are 2 units in one, as they are a newer body shell with recycled parts from the 70 class. so the 70 class lives on in part. would be nice to see the last 80 preserved, but best not to hold my breath

I do believe that this year was the last year of it in service as a sandite train as a tender was put out for a new machine however you never know....

There's also a 70 class centre trailer at Downpatrick I believe.
