I was on 38 leading from A the other day and she doesn't :D Nexus may have got the hint ;)

Fingers crossed it's just because they want to fine tune him more ;)

Seems odd though for them to have re-installed the old female PA when it did have the male PA (unless he was removed which is why there was never any auto-PA?)

I hope that was sarcasm ;) Fine tune as in in the recycling bin! Save the lady I say! ;)

Maybe they aren't rolling him out? Or are trialling him once again - I hope they keep our lady :(

Me... sarcastic... never... ;)

To me it's the amount of money they've spent on him. Is it really worth wasting that money on something that isn't going to materialise and just give up or do they try and polish a turd. They seem to be going for the latter at the minute and to be fair aren't doing too bad of a job.

Nexus love to waste a bit of cash! ;) but you can put lipstick on a pig but it will always be a pig ;)

Apparently light blue is in the lead for the Central Station refurbishment, I do wonder if they will make the canopy circular on the platforms (like Haymarket) I really do look forward to seeing metro in 3 years time. I bet it'll be a hell of slot different!

I'd also love to see Metro invest in some signs to tell wheelchair users where they should go on the train, they made a wheelchair friendly zone to prevent people from blocking the gangways and doors, but I don't think I've ever saw a person use these zones. I don't know if it's because people don't know or if they don't want to use it.

Moving the topic on slightly,
What are your views on Nexus' no filming/photography rules?

Absolutely ridiculous... along with the prohibition on bicycles being carried on board.

Bikes are now being allowed on. A trial is taking place IIRC (it may not have started yet).

On another note, 4038 has got male announcements loaded in. Today, I boarded it and the announcements were female but the display information was off the male announcement so didn't correspond to each other.

Maybe that's an error from the first failed trial of him, although I am sure the last time I was on 38 she has both for the female - disappointed in nexus to say the least.

Why don't they give the drivers the choice of the male/female one, I know who they'd pick.

I filled in a questionnaire about that a while back, and never heard anything more. As the refurbished sets have two "wheelchair" bays each (4 in the usual paired set) then there is plenty of room.

Yes, I agree. The male would likely be their first choice ;) /s

In all seriousness, if he had the fixes I'd mentioned, along with a few other minor adjustments then he would definitely be my favourite option.

I don't remember where I read it, but I'm sure they said January 2015 was the start date of a trial. Now, they also said Pop Pay-As-You-Go would be launching now too, and there's nothing about that. So as with anything Nexus/Metros dates are to be understood as complete lies and expect it to happen two or three years later :p

I'm sure there would be some sort of announcement if/when is being allowed on the Metro... We shall see if anything happens but personally it will be about time for bikes to be allowed onto metro trains.

It does appear the male announcements will be put in but going from previous history, I be surprised if its a quick transition.

I just don't like the male announcer, as you's all probably know by now  he's just too common and he just grinds on me.

2 big closures coming up, 2 Saturday's along the central belt in February, South Gosforth - Haymarket, not looking forward to getting the bus to town :(

Yeah, I'll be jumping on the X47 from Newcastle up to Kingston Park. Metro replacement will just take way too long.

I'm one stop down from you, I must admit I do walk quite far for the metro but I much prefer it over the bus.

Travelling from Jarrow to Kingston Park using two Metros and a bus is just too stupid and would likely mean at least a 30 minute extra time for my journey. So getting the Metro then bus will mean either the same travel time (possibly less) as normal.

I think for me even with the 10 minute walk it is still about the same time, even if it's not metro is just nicer.

Looks like the male announcements have been messed with again. Haymarket now just says 'The next station is Haymarket. Change here for local bus services.'

Also discussing the bike ban, I totally agree with it. They will take up too much space and are an inconvenience to the majority of passengers, maybe allow them off peak but to me it's a general no no - there just isn't the room!

Having a trial on allowing bikes wouldn't work as the ban does work now. Even if you allowed bikes between say 10.00-14.00 you'd get people trying to get on in the middle of rush hour.

Sounds like it's ready to be rolled out  4038 is still missing some stickers you know, I wonder why that is.

Funny you should mention stickers.

One of the more recent refurbs (may have been the last one back) came back and still had an old advert on the window (albeit upside down). Found it quite funny, especially after Metro specifically said that all the windows are being completely replaced in their last Q&A.

Most refurbs now still have the old marks off where the stickers were. Whoever is inspecting these trains upon coming back is missing them then they really shouldn't be inspecting the trains.

I don't think its any secret that the windows are not replaced with new ones, we discussed this on here recently and I think we all agreed, its a good way of saving money and why replace a window if it isnt damaged?

Not sure why Nexus can't admit this, surely no one is going to moan about a window not being replaced?

Fair enough use the old windows if they are fit for purpose but firstly they should be checking if they are fit for purpose, then clean them and then when they put them in put them in properly! I've had to tell nexus of leaky windows at the front of the unit and of a broken opening window - both of which were refurbished units.

I wonder how much has been replaced during this programme, personally I think Metro punctuality will be back to old ways when we are back to a full compliment - nexus should explain stuff like this to public so they aren't so volatile.

Unless the glass is cracked or etched, it will not be replaced. A leak is more to do with the rubber seal rather than the glass itself.

Exactly my though lol - Things should get better this year though. Is PAYG available now or has it been pushed back again?

Currently a trial going on, undetermined when the actual scheme will go ahead.

Only reason I can think of that the Pop card has won the award is the fact that it is one given by the industry (i.e. someone has to win it).

There's been a trial since last September (I was invited onto it but declined) and it was expected to be launched in January.

So, pushed back again.

That is no good at all. Obviously Pop was the only smart card in Europe last year lol - I think its just because if the scale of the scheme.

Today I saw a man cheat the gates and walk behind someone who had just gone through, the ticket officers made no attempt to stop him, she only shouted 'Darling have you got a ticket' he then walked calmly past police officers who had heard her say that - disgrace, I even voiced my opinion as that is disgusting, the gate teams get paid to protect revenue and she just didn't bother at all, infact she just walked off all hunky dory. Very disappointing.

On return, Monument stunk of burning plastic and I think there was a train withdrawn from service at West Jesmond - Can anyone confirm this?
