For tickets which are routed ‘✠ANY PERMITTED’ and which are valid for multiple days and which permit break of journey: is the cross-London transfer restricted to a specific day during the validity?

For example, an Anytime Return (SOR) from Brighton to Leeds is valid for five days on the outward journey and one month on the return journey.

I see no restrictions or general conditions and so I assume that break of journey is permitted at any time within the validity.

Could one use it to travel, for example, from Brighton to Victoria on Southern on Day 1, spend the night at a friend’s, then take the tube to King’s Cross on Day 2 and continue to Leeds on East Coast? Then come back to King’s Cross on Day 15, spend a week sight-seeing around London on foot, then proceed from KGX to Victoria on Day 22 and thence to Brighton?

I understand the cross-London transfers need to be done in one piece (i.e. you couldn’t travel Victoria to Euston, have a drink in a pub there, then continue on the underground Euston to King’s Cross on the same NR ticket), but I’m less sure whether there is a validity day imposed (e.g. only valid on the first possible day out and the first or last possible day return, or the like).

Or, well, why I’m really asking: if I manage to get a Eurostar connecting ticket from Horsham to ‘Lndon Estar CIV’ (valid for ‘TWO MONTHS CIV’) dated the day before my Eurostar journey, can I travel to Victoria (by NR) on day x-1 and then proceed from Victoria to St Pancras (by LU) on day x to catch the Eurostar there?

The LUL bit is not valid for break of journey (once you leave the Tube system you cannot re-enter it) but may be used at any time during the ticket validity EXCEPT, I believe, if on an Off Peak outward you use the ability to break your journey overnight because you get stuck due to running out of trains.

I don't see why not.

For period tickets, the cross-London transfer is valid for one journey during the validity, not necessarily on the first day.

From memory, no break of journey permitted on CIV tickets connecting with Eurostar, except for London (max 24 hours allowed) - so you are allowed to stay there overnight in each direction.

In a completely different ticket, I had read something along the lines of tickets to CIV destinations to be issued not more than one day before a trip overseas or not more than one day after one coming back from there, which would more or less fit what you said.

I was a bit surprised that such text was not listed on the couple of tickets to LNE (London International CIV) or LOE (Lndon Estar CIV) I had looked at—they simply had no restrictions at all, and had a validity of ‘TWO MONTHS CIV’, whatever that meant.

Such a restriction (including restriction on break of journey only in London) would have to be part of the ticket text for it to be part of the contract, wouldn’t it?

I guess they're technically TCV tickets which do have 2 months' validity with unlimited BoJ.

That said, the restriction is on issue, not use:

"The outward portion must not

must not be dated more than
one day after the passenger's
ticket between the Continent
and London. All tickets are
issued in accordance with the
uniform rules concerning the

Carriage of Passengers and
Luggage by Rail (CIV)."

The problem with CIV tickets is that in theory they are only valid if used to connect with an international journey, so while they might have a validity of 2 months in line with European tickets, if you use it after your supposed international journey has departed, it is quite obvious that you will not be connecting into an international journey. There is an argument that it then invalidates the ticket, so the effective validity may only be a few days if there is only a small window of "effective" validity.

What you proposed obviously will be fine.
